About this deal

Over 1 billion people across the world have disabilities and are affected by inaccessibility, according to the WHO. We hear the term accessibility a lot in UX design, but it’s often used as a buzzword, bandied about to give the appearance of inclusivity and doesn’t hold up in practice. How do we change this, make our products more accessible and hold each other accountable? At least 1 in 5 people in the UK have a long term illness, impairment or disability. Many more have a temporary disability.

This is due to fire evacuation procedures and the wheelchair lift only being suitable for one wheelchair at a time, due to weight and dimension restrictions.

Some cultural references are not directly translatable, so for consistency and as we welcome many international guests, English language caters for the vast majority of our visitors. After becoming Accessibility Lead in the Ministry of Justice Digital and Technology (MoJ D&T) in April 2021, I wanted to make sure I set aside time to read and hear about the experiences of disabled people. I figured that one good way of doing this would be to read books and watch films. But knowing that life gets hectic, I wanted to create accountability, so I set up an ‘Accessibility Book Club’. third party content that’s under someone else’s control if you did not pay for it or develop it yourself - for example, social media ‘like’ buttonsWith their DRM free PDFs, it is possible to use Adobe Reader's 'Read out aloud' functionality which can be enabled in the Adobe Reader software under the 'View' tab
