About this deal

Then, there are more personal and deeper chapters, like the sections elaborating on her heartbreak or the section on her mother. In case you have not heard of her, yet: Chung is a 34 year-old model who charmed designers everywhere with her lay-down attitude and her extraordinary looks. But again it doesn’t seem that deep, more than anything she’s just being “I’m not like other girls”. Already a hugely popular television personality and a muse for Marc Jacobs and Karl Lagerfeld, Chung was also a cohost of the nightly music show Fuse News, covering the hottest acts and entertainment news. With Chung's characteristic wit, charm, and refreshingly down-to-earth attitude, this full-color compendium is a must-have for anyone who loves fashion, music, and just about everything Alexa Chung.

I usually have a lot of respect for models and other people in the fashion industry, but this was just so. That is what makes it an interesting text to revisit now, precisely ten years after its release (Where did time go? So what does the linen-bound, rose-colored book offer that you couldn’t already know by checking Alexa’s blog regularly? With Chung’s characteristic wit, charm, and refreshingly down-to-earth attitude, this full-color compendium is a must-have for anyone who loves fashion, music, and just about everything Alexa Chung. She’s always saying how much she’s striving for femininity but at her core wants to wear dinosaur shirts and be a tomboy and dress like a boy but be a girl… hm… It is interesting to think how these feelings would manifest if she were born at a diff time. I get the sense though that whatever your opinion of the book itself, it very much reflects Miss Chung. In 2002, World of Books Group was founded on an ethos to do good, protect the planet and support charities by enabling more goods to be reused. A wholly unique collection of Chung’s personal writings, drawings, and photographs, It covers everything from her candid thoughts on life, love, and music to her favorite ensembles and how to decide what to wear in the morning.

IT is a book that addresses all and nothing, a text filled with bits and snapshots of Chung´s youth; a niche of her own, a curation of an ambiance of a stylisée but effortless woman on the go tracing her way through the fashion and entertainment industry. She is wry about her penchant for dating lead singers ("I'm a self-confessed groupie"), and sweet on heartbreak ("Every time you post a picture of yourself on Instagram looking fake happy a fairy dies. I’m kinda joking it’s not that serious but her favorite influences are Woody Allen movies, The Talking Heads, Wes Anderson, aforementioned Lolita, Brigette Bardot, Anna Karina, and Twiggy. There’s also talk of first favorites— varying from clothes to anthems to movies… and, of course, featuring gorgeous pictures and illustrations. Plague journals, escapist literature, political history: explore our year in review, where we share rare book trends and a gallery of some of the most beautiful and interesting books sold in 2020.Alexa Chung's new book »IT« delivers exactly what you’d expect from a rose-colored, high-quality linen cover: A wealth of inspiration, beauty advice, and personal snapshots. Well, first off it’s also a kind of unstructured diary that talks about her taste in fashion, music, beauty, and movies. For the record, Chung includes Mick Jagger, The Beatles, Anna Karina and Edie Sedgwick as some of her style icons. Instead, she candidly mentions (as a side note in parenthesis) that her modeling card would hold her name alongside her Polaroid “Minus the “Chung” part so that clients could project whatever nationality they wanted onto my face”. She brings would-be admirers (and current fans who follow her on street style blogs and social media) into her world with this combined style guide, memoir, and scrapbook.

This was possible because even if the books were humorous and easy-to read, they were tiptoeing on substantial topics.

Chung remains loyal to traditional gender conventions that paint women with a pink brush, and men with an electric blue sharpie.

I quite like Alexa Chung, largely based on her style - I don't think I've ever seen her presenting anything - but that's probably the way most people think about her, hence the publication of this scrapbook-cum-style-guide rather than an autobiography. Alexa Chung's IT: the Top Ten Bestseller from the international fashion muse and Vogue contributing editor. I’ll always prefer a girl in an oversized t shirt as opposed to an undersized boob tube but that’s because I’m a girl, or a tomboy, and not a boy. That is another aspect that adds up to Alexa´s relevance within today´s “cool”- she aligned with the candid and analogue visual elements that have come back today to become the aspirational aesthetic within some Internet communities. The edgy corners of Tumblr in 2013 consisted of the “I-was-born-in-the-wrong-era” groupies whose inclinations included “indie” icons such as The Neighborhood, The Arctic Monkeys, Lana del Rey, quotes from Lolita, and American Apparel outfits. In It, her first book, the global fashion-trendsetter Alexa Chung shares her own very personal inspirations, musings and eclectic sense of style. In It, she raids her desk and laptop to give us a distinctive collage of words, drawings, and photographs on all things Alexa; from clothing choices to random thoughts on life, music, and love.
