About this deal

The storyline is easily conceivable and all the characters were genuine, well defined, and rich with emotion. The story begins with an interesting premise, and I loved the initial interviews that are happening, right after the disappearance. BUT- although I got to know DI Adam Fawley, I can not name all of his team, because, I wasn’t riveted and I found myself easily distracted! Her father cries too readily, and her mother is more worried about her appearance – not to mention the cleanliness of her home – than about her missing daughter.

Everything was wrapping up nicely and then the author said, let me throw a lil razzle dazzle in there even though no razzle nor dazzle was needed. I would highly recommend this book as a full-on entertaining and thrilling mystery, framed perfectly in a police procedural structure. The motive of the culprit is righteous if you think about it but the execution was lacking just a little bit, I needed more. The story was interspersed with social media entries which was fairly interesting as the family was trolled in the public domain - in this instance with justification. There was many a scene, where I was so immersed in what else was going on that I failed to notice important clues, and each new reveal left me reeling, thrilled over the authors ability to surprise me. The precocious 8 year old Daisy goes missing at her parents barbeque and fireworks party for parents and neighbours.

So far the premise all sounds pretty conventional but Cara Hunter gives the novel a very distinctive feel with a fly on the wall level of insight into a real-time police investigation which prioritises action over analysis and ensures rapid-fire plot development.A brilliantly plotted psychological crime novel about a missing child and the scandal that erupts in the aftermath with a shocking twist They know who did it. All-too-often DI Adam Fawley’s gut reaction is right, too: it’s someone the child knows behind the disappearance, a parent, a neighbour. The Masons seem like a completely average family – father Barry is a builder, house-proud mum Sharon is keen to make friends with the neighbours, and Daisy’s brother Leo is a nervous, football-obsessed 10-year-old.

And, DI Fawley is tasked with finding out where 8 year old Daisy Mason has vanished to in the first installment of this police procedural. year old Daisy Mason has disappeared from her parents summer barbecue in Oxford; there were lots of guests - neighbours, school friends, their parents, but nobody saw a thing and were therefore unable to help with police enquiries. There are many twists in this book, and they all are happening based on dumn luck or weird circumstances. At first, I wondered if this quickfire approach might make the narrative feel disjointed, but I found I settled into the staccato rhythm.
