About this deal

A Double Life tells the story of Cecily, who is being trapped into marriage by her well-meaning mother; her best friend, Olga; and Olga’s mother, who means to clear the way for a wealthier suitor for her own daughter by marrying off Cecily first. Christian Science Monitor A Double Life is an appealing novel, offering a colorful, penetrating portrait of Moscow's high society in those times, especially the lives of the wives and women in it. Claire was not a character i felt empathy for same goes for her brother Robbie and their mother uhm what was her name? When you’re reading the book, it will feel as though you are wading through an oil slick, and the other feelings this book may conjure up may include loathing and revulsion.

Her Mother, who was wounded in the attack, always stated that Claire's father was in the home that night. Philby, granddaughter of the notorious double agent Kim Philby, explores why a woman might find herself living two lives: Gabriela is gloriously dislikable, and easy to judge, but she is also terribly compelling, and her downwards spiral towards disaster is persuasive and absorbing. The plot is gripping as well, though it's not particularly twisty - but that's fine as Berry's writing keeps you engaged throughout.I love how its really not about whether he’s guilty or not but about how the lives he left behind him are indelibly altered. Before their divorce was final her dispensed-of mother stumbled half-dead into a bar, drenched in blood, and accused the future earl of trying to kill her with a steel pipe.

Heylin’s more controversial phrases are often picked apart by Dylan fans on social media; in a previous book, he pictured the African American musicians Arthur Crudup and Charley Patton “spinning in their cottonpickin’ graves”. The spy element ( more trafficking) is rather peripheral to the story despite the publicity surrounding the book suggesting otherwise . It's here, in the first volume of Patricia Highsmith's five-book Ripley series, that we are introduced to the suave Tom Ripley, a young striver seeking to leave behind his past as an orphan bullied for being a "sissy. This is another biography and I liked it so much because it shed light on the inner life of an American hero: Aviator Charles Lindbergh. He plead his innocence through his friend’s whom would be investigated for helping him escape: they denied everything and were never charged. The book cuts between the third person narrative of Gabriela and the first person narrative of Isobel with both women doggedly pursuing their own investigations, increasingly fearful of exposure and justifiably paranoid. Her protagonists seethe over their knowledge of violence and are fueled by a howling grief for its victims. When she reached the landing she found her estranged husband with a length of pipe outfitted with tape. I would be well into the flashback and just generally confused about what I was reading before I even realized it was a flashback.
