About this deal

I liked the idea of the Hyhborn, (the immortals made from the earth who are very powerful) and the Lowborn (the mortals who are born) and the differences between them. Found family and friendships as a trope is a personal favourite and here, I find myself amongst yet another one that I couldn’t get enough of. She is confident, witty, real, raw, too relatable and mature yet has a naivety about her and despite her past she has not let this guard off her heart. JLA has been critiqued extensively for her repetitive 'I have a question' with Poppy, rather than just asking the fucking question, and this had the same rage inducing effect that I would have preferred be omitted.

I can tell how much you really enjoyed it and your enjoyment of it is making me consider picking this up even though I have a feeling JLA and I just don’t vibe. BUT I like where this is going and I think this may have been a good intro, which will allow the second book to hit the ground running. I … I wanted to talk to you about my sister,” she began—tentatively, and Naomi was never tentative in anything she did.According to the author: "A FALL OF RUIN AND WRATH, an adult fantasy romance, is coming Fall 2023 from Tor Books. I’m always willing to give authors second, third, and fourth chances, even if I haven’t *adored* what they’ve previously written. That being said… I don’t think I will be continuing this series and I just don’t think JLA is the author for me anymore. It was the same in all the places Grady and I had lived in before the Midlands’ city of Archwood, which had caused me to be accused of being a conjurer and led to us fleeing in the middle of the night more times than I cared to remember to avoid the hangman’s noose.

I did think an editor would improve her work, thus my excitement to see her new book being published by TOR. Hyhborn might fuck their way through the entirety of the lowborn race and then some, and a few might even claim a lowborn as theirs, at least for a time, but they were never a lowborn’s. Because there were so many more ways they could prove that they cared for us lowborn, starting with providing food throughout the year to those in need. Fall of Ruin and Wrath follows Calista, a mortal who can see the future and has a strong intuition where she lives hidden at the Baron of Archwood's Palace.Lynn) so I wasn’t really sure if this was going to be crazy different vibe wise from those two series or not, thankfully, at least in my opinion, it wasn’t. When her intuition leads her to save a traveling prince in dire trouble, the voice inside her blazes with warning―and promise. And while Thorne and Lis were worlds apart, it always felt like there was something pulling them together. I’m not a super prudish reader, but when the stories stop telling a story, I start to get annoyed and underwhelmed.

It's very similar to FBAA, which in itself is fine, but I found myself constantly comparing the two, and this one was lacking. He’s somewhat cold, with barely any emotions, so it’s harder to get a warm, fuzzy feeling between the 2 but I have faith that JLA will dish out all the feels in the sequel. To see her become the badass she's meant to be, is going to be sweet🤌 I liked she was ready to be vulnerable with Thorne and her fiesty nature suited her quite well. Naomi asked after a handful of moments, her voice lighter than it had been when she walked into the chamber. I also just desperately despise ANY romantasy book that includes the FMC having to explain ongoing consent to the love interest. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Add to that the repetitive bland banter between Thorne and her, and her unending inner monologues, and it made for a character that could have been very interesting but ended up being just ordinary. The bestselling author of the Blood and Ash series weaves another saga of addictive fantasy romance as a baron, a prince and a girl whose intuition never fails find themselves at the mercy of dark forces massing outside the city gates. In this new series, Calista has a special gift that she can read peoples minds and glimpses of their deaths.
