It is a bit warm when worn for a period of time, but not as hot as a PVC poncho; I do believe the breathable claim. The bulk of the storm passed overhead in a matter of minutes, but the trailing drizzle hung around for the rest of the afternoon. uilt-protectorI can't find the poncho mod for an UQP at their site this morning, only the DriDicks poncho.

When I hike in New Zealand, where it can get cold and rainy, I use a lightweight knee-length gotten jacket, big enough to wear wool and downjacket under and I have needed that.

I stopped using my poncho ( Altus) some years ago - it functioned just as it should have, but I found it all a bit cumbersome. The Frogg Toggs Ultra-Lite2 Jacket will protect you from the elements because that’s all it was made to do, and it’s going to do its darnedest. I came to Denver right after the snow a few weeks ago and had no idea what supplies I needed to hike because I’m from Michigan. I like to be able to put my rain gear on and off without stoping to take off my backpack, so the Frogg Toggs would not be my first choice, but I'm going with a couple of other people who may need gear, hence the question. Originated by Native American peoples in South America, today’s ponchos are both fashionable and functional.

I have wondered if they could put it through a similar process that polyethelene goes through to become dyneema or spectra fiber, but i have no idea if that would change anything and even if it did then it would become prohibitively expensive to use in large amounts like the former are. Both work well in the rain and this setup also helps my wife stay warm on early morning winter hikes as it tends to keep the heat in. My son has used a Frogg Togg poncho on 1000 miles of the AT in a rainy Spring, and on the Caminos when needed. If I need two poles at the time, I can tuck the umbrella handle in to the chest strap of my backpack.

If you would rather carry a separate cord or rope or bungee to use as a belt around the poncho, those work too.
