About this deal

Finally, a half decade later, I got around to tasting a sample of that GlenDronach 18 and I now know what David was talking about. With its all-natural hue and bottled at a robust 46% ABV, this expression has been nurtured within the finest Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. Named after the distillery's founder, James Allardice, this popular highland single malt has been at the centre of its core range since its re-launch in 2000 and is renowned as a great example of a sherry-focussed whisky. We’re delighted to welcome Glendronach back from the wilderness and we are sure it is going to prove a massive hit.

This whisky has definitely been aged in sherry casks It’s a dram I’m happy to share with my wife (sorry, bucking the trend here with being married to the same woman for over 43 years). The GlenDronach Allardice Aged 18 Years is a complex expression with dark treacle, allspice and walnut notes carrying on into the long, lingering finish. While it sources the same malted barley as Benriach Distillery, either the water or the workings at GlenDronach yield a bulkier, heavier spirit that takes to ex-sherry casks very well. Having tried this side by side with the rest of the range I'd say this is the best bang for buck, but it's not particularly cheap for an 18 year old whisky.

I found the Allardice to have intense sherry sweetness, right off, dark chocolate, orange, raisins, caramel, and at the very end a massive hit of maple syrup. Being a big Islay drinker, many of the more delicate whiskies escaped me when I first started getting into scotch, but this bottle immediately struck me as something special when I first tried it.

As it morphs on the tongue, however, the nutty, dark fruit notes of the sherry cask stick around and mingle with an increasing tobacco and dry wood flavor. On the fruitier side, the pineapple from the nose is gone but it is replaced with red apple and dates. It just so happens that the whisky in both bottles was 23 years old due to the 6 year production gap, as we all know.

En tout cas, pour ceux qui hésitent à l'avoir dans leur cave vu son prix, je le recommande fortement. GlenDronach has made a great reputation with its sherry matured whisky, offering quality drams with age statements. The GlenDronach distillery was founded in 1826 – being one of the first licensed Scottish distilleries owned by BenRiach nowadays.

Therefore I’m very confused by this review mainly saying it’s extremely raisiny, vinegary, fungal, unbalanced? Commande effectuée le 13 avril, livraison prévue pour le 21 avril mais bonne surprise, elle est arrivée ce matin dans ma boîte aux lettres. Our traditional wooden washbacks, a copper mash tun and distinctive saxophone-shaped stills help to create The GlenDronach’s elegant, complex character with tremendous depth of taste.

C'est, pour ma part, l'un des meilleurs whisky que je connaisse mais je ne suis qu'un petit amateur. Nose: Kicking things off with the thinnest layer of gunpowder (which quickly disappears), quickly followed by cedarwood, blackcurrants, raisins and a handful of figs, accompanied by cigar tobacco, subtle notes of cappuccino, and a sliver of mint. I actually like although it may not sound like I do, but I like it as I would an after dinner port and dense old fruitcake . The driver will input your year of birth into their device and may then require an ID check to complete the age verification process.

Thankfully (for me) I don’t get the oak which I feel is so prevalent on the Glenfiddich 18 and Balvenie 12. If you have had the pleasure of tasting this whisky before then you’ll already know how fantastic it truly is. Sherry sweetness, dark fruity leather, cocoa, citrus peels, vermouth and some orchard fruit and spice notes. Nose: Sweet aromatics of fudge and muscovado sugar, Fruit compote and glacier morello cherries provide added complexity.Die Aromen waren im Mund wie beschrieben und das Kitzeln am Gaumen und die beschriebene Intensität vorhanden. I like a sherry finish on an Islay for example, but in this one it's far more prominent, dominant in fact! From the colour, to the nose and that oh so so so so long finish I can still taste it hours after the first sip. The Highlander was matured completely in Oloroso sherry casks, and was originally released in 2009 following the distillery changing hands back in 2008.
