About this deal

Of course it is completely classist, racist and includes many painfully bad caricatures, which might cause modern readers to cringe. Gilt dulled a little to spine, boards unfaded and clean, spine panel has faded area to base where DJ flapping.

Fortunately, he meets Jennie, a cat who had been abandoned by her family when they moved away, who educates him in the wiles of the feline world. Then he runs across the street without looking -- and I won't ruin the rest of this wonderful book for you. And no, there is no clear way to say how the female cat see the boy, as the boy as a cat was a big, adult sized cat. Paul Gallico's descriptions of cats and their lives is quite detailed and it looks like they were based on real observations. It is definitely one of those incredible, somehow saturated books that capture you and inspire you to just get beyond yourself and strive to be better, no matter how hard it might be. He had twenty three cats at home and it looks like that gave him a lot of opportunities to observe cats and their ways.

Fortunately, he gets rescued by the eponymous Jennie, a sweet-faced, sweet-natured, intelligent and rather plain fellow stray cat. During his stint there, he was sent to cover the training camp of Jack Dempsey, and decided to ask Dempsey if he could spar with him, to get an idea of what it was like to be hit by the world heavyweight champion. He is perhaps best remembered for his short story, The Snow Goose and for the novel The Poseidon Adventure, which was made into a very famous film adaptation in 1972. It is just as fresh now as when I first read it, and in spite of the passing years, still tugs at the heart-strings. Many classical books contain such ideas that are problematic for modern readers, yet that doesn't mean they are not good books or books that shouldn't be read.He graduated in 1921 with a Bachelor of Science degree, having lost a year and a half due to World War I. On waking, he is astonished to find that he has turned into a cat… The world is a dangerous place for him, but luckily he is rescued and befriended by Jennie, a kindly stray tabby who has been abandoned by her owners.

My favorite Next Generation episode was “The Inner Light,” in which Picard falls into a coma on board and mentally awakes on the planet Kataan, where people insist he is a man named Kamin. Towards the end of the book, I thought that something heartbreaking would happen – either Peter or Jennie would die, or Peter would become a human being again and that would be the end of their friendship. After serving in the First World War he became a journalist with the New York Daily News where he enjoyed particular acclaim for his sports writing. I'm glad I finally did get my hands on a copy of this, even though it's later in life than the author probably intended.

Humorous and touching, and packed with acutely observed feline behaviour, this is a beloved classic that’s essential for any cat-lover. I felt nostalgic as I read THE ABANDONED, because it has that timeless quality of the other great books of children's literature.
