About this deal

Use the thumbs up and thumbs down icons to agree or disagree that the title is similar to Moonage Daydream. That is, there's much for the fan to be enamoured with - and for the non-fan, it may be a lesser feast, but it's also an insight into what makes an artist tick, what powers an intellect, and why he was so revered in life and in death.

Even More Details: Language(s): English|Hard of Hearing Subtitles: English|Subtitles: Dutch, French, German, Italian|Interactive Menu|Screen ratio 1:1.Note: I’m taking a break from watching the Oppenheimer blu-ray, the latest blu-ray tech, which means I don’t have a firmware issue as the Criterion people replied to me when I wrote them about this defective disc. Because the film is comprised entirely of extant material of different sources and quality (often shifting from 1. The purposely neon-hued color grading is consistently vibrant, while the dynamic range of colors only further intensifies the film’s hypnagogic tendencies.

Because of the internet, there will never be another artist as fascinatingly strange and influential as David Bowie. Brett Morgen's Moonage Daydream offers a most unusual glimpse into Bowie's strange world but I found it quite difficult to endure because of its intense ultra-modern visual style. This makes sense, considering the general public wasn’t interested in Bowie until the release of Ziggy Stardust and subsequent tour. The native fluctuations that affect delineation, clarity, depth, and even stability are just as obvious in 1080p as they are in 4K. It's no lie to say at the start, it's a visual overload, scenes interlacing, quick cuts, screaming fans, and musical mayhem all coagulate into one opening sequence that's heady and thrilling. Though he would later retract such statements, their exclusion from the film suggests a timidity about peering into the darker corners of Bowie’s history that robs us of a deeper, more complex, and well-rounded portrait.

An ecstatic voyage through the creative and spiritual universe of David Bowie, Moonage Daydream is a fittingly unclassifiable tribute to the shape-shifting rock iconoclast and his singular sound and vision. Even properly preserved material -- like the one that is used during the Los Angeles and Berlin segments looks wonderful in 4K and 1080p. Moonage Daydream’s clips are culled from source materials of varying qualities, but the Criterion Collection’s 4K transfer, by and large, looks fantastic throughout, pulling maximum detail out of even the darkest, most degraded concert footage. Even more so than in Cobain: Montage of Heck, his 2015 film about Kurt Cobain, Morgen is less interested in factual biography than in eliciting a sense of the man as an artist and personality. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Having graduated from King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 2014, I've been looking for a platform in which I can share my passions. There’s nothing remotely approaching the kind of home movie verisimilitude that “Imagine: John Lennon” offered.

So in a way, the audience is learning about Bowie similar to how people from the early 1970s found out about him. More significantly, though, Morgen features animation from Stefan Nadelman throughout Moonage Daydream that ranges from spacey science-fiction, with recurring images of a lunar eclipse and a girl traipsing on the moon, to Stan Brakhage-like abstraction. When released last year, it received critical acclaim and rightfully so: it’s a visually stunning and gives insight as to how Bowie’s mind worked.

This Company does not however exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence. Featuring footage of Bowie performing and being interviewed as well as previously unseen concert footage released by his estate, the documentary follows his creative journey to become one of the most successful artists in musical history. Yet there's no denying Moonage Daydream is a music documentary the likes of which we've not really seen before.
