Three Tales From Nurse Matilda (Box Set of Nurse Matilda, Nurse Matilda Goes to Town and Nurse Matilda Goes to Hospital). At the gaudy wedding, the children pretend there are bees (inspired by the way Quickly told them to "behave," and baby Aggie repeating the word but pronouncing it as "beehive"), chase the guests, and start a food fight using banquet pastries. The repeat of the naughty pranks the kids play as a list, to me, seemed tedious but it might bring giggles to kids by the outrageousness of it all. there are a few boring bits were the story has trailed off and doesn't make sense, but otherwise this book is such an old and lovely tale which I would recommend to anyone who is up to the challenge.

I really enjoyed Emma Thompson's alterations, bringing more of a reason for the kids to be so far out of hand. Nurse Matilda herself is the children’s nurse from…well, you don’t really know where she’s from, do you? These children may be like your family – or they may be your worst nightmare – or your fondest fantasy – or even just a lot of silly nonsense – but unless you like children’s fiction to be “improving” and “instructive,” I think you will love these purely entertaining, witty stories about childhood in an age that is past, though not necessarily a golden one.

I found a copy of the Nurse Matilda trilogy movie tie-in edition at our local Goodwill for a few bucks and figured that I'd take the opportunity to read these stories and then watch the Nanny McPhee movies starring Emma Thompson. Quickly, intrigued when she hears about Adelaide's wealth and status, reconciles with Cedric and agrees to marry him. Nanny McPhee arrives to instruct the children in seven lessons, such as how to go to bed when told, how to say please and thank you, and to do their schoolwork.

The Nurse Matilda books were written by the British children's author Christianna Brand (1907–1988) and illustrated by her cousin, Edward Ardizzone. The second movie deals with a mother ( Maggie Gyllenhaal) and five children (three are her own, the other two are a niece and nephew) who must save their farm while the husband/father/uncle is away in World War II. She dropped the series in the late 1950s and concentrated on various genres as well as short stories. Brown is alive and well, whereas in the first film she is dead, having fallen ill after the birth of the youngest child, Agatha.
