This award winning game includes a board about the size of a Monopoly board; 12 symbol tokens and lids to cover them; life cards so you can keep a close eye on how many lives your opponents have too; plus a Baffled dice. This is an intriguing game, when reading the back of the box I really couldn't understand how the tiles 'swap' themselves, I couldn't wait to give it a go. They like card games, board games as well as computer games, and I love how they all provide the opportunity to spend some quality family time together, creating important bonds and memories. The gameplay is centered around the train, as players move their meeples through its compartments and even jump on the roofs.

This version could build the confidence of a less able player until they are ready to play the full version. And while friends may come and go, a good board game like Baffled will more than last you a lifetime.

I plan to include Baffled in a future blog post on 10 great memory games, similar to my recent post on 10 great visual perception games. I remember tearing off the wrapping, only to be met with a somewhat crudely drawn elephant, and the phrase: ‘You’ll need the memory of an elephant! Fun for all the family and cleverly designed so that children and adults have an equal chance of winning. I will definitely be getting this out to play when we have friends over, it's a game that doesn't last for an age and is great for a variety of ages. A player may land on a square where they are told to swap around the positions of two of the symbol tiles.

I feel like games like this might not always get the recognition they deserve, whether that’s because they are seen as too simple, said to be very juvenile, or be based on a concept that doesn’t seem interesting enough to play.

The object of the game, is to remember the positions of the symbols, but this gets increasingly more difficult as the covered up tiles move around. That includes having bigger boxes to have a more visible place on the board game shelf, and, of course, having appealing components, which one could argue, Baffled has. Winner of 2 x GOLD awards: for ‘Best Family Game’ and ‘Best Problem-Solving Game’ in the Imagination Gaming Awards 2018! As well as these, players may also be able to ask others about the locations of certain tiles (or the tiles of certain locations) or have to name two or as many as three mystery tiles/spaces for a reward. The game really encouraged turn-taking and the children also helped each other out when they struggled, which was lovely to see.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.To play you roll the dice (1-4) then the questioner asks you all the questions of that number on the cards within the timeframe. After making their guess the cover of that square is revealed so everyone can see if they got it right or not. There is, of course, no question, that in current fast-growing board game market, games have to do all they can to stand out. How exciting to be on safari, trying to spot all your favorite animals… but, hang on, one of them has wandered off!
