About this deal

Eventually, David and Jill begin to suspect that the students at the school aren’t even using their names, and that their teachers are a monster of some kind, be it a werewolf, a vampire, a mummy and a ghost. Groosham Grange follows three misfits, David, Jill, and Jeffrey as they arrive at their new boarding school on Skrull Island where they are forced to sign a book in their own blood; the teachers seem to be werewolves, vampires, and witches; and all the other pupils are oddly well behaved, wear the same mysterious ring, and disappear at night. Por ejemplo, la idea de una escuela mágica, o bien que aparezcan tres niños como protagonistas (dos niños y una niña).

In fact I wrote my first book when I was ten, stuck in a miserable, north London boarding school where reading and telling stories were my only lifeline. The experience of getting to Groosham Grange was a terrifying and eye opening journey for each child. I especially love the typical British humour, like the really awful parents (a bit like the adults in Roald Dahl's books), especially the father who is a real bully and the mother who is just as awful, but this is what makes the book so hilarious. They only get one day of vacation a year, and he and his two friends immediately start to become suspicious about the staff and other strange events. The mystery deepens one night when David awakens to see them all trooping off into the library, where they vanish.Horowitz nicely demonstrates the age-gap (or in this case, the age-yawning-void) perpetuated by the central characters’ parents, who impose their values, ideals, and dreams on the next generation without finding out what their children actually want. It could almost be enjoyable except that every time you get interested in the plot, the author decides to throw a cheesy joke in. A lot of critics (and Horowitz himself) have since noted certain similarities between the Groosham Grange novel and the newer Harry Potter series written by J. New pupils are made to sign their names in blood; the French teacher disappears every full moon; and the assistant headmaster keeps something very chilling in his room. Every night, the students also get out of their beds and suddenly disappear from the school without a trace.

Talking about the success of his other books, Alex Rider, Horowitz thanked Rowling for her contribution to the development of the young adult fiction in the UK. It would be a very appropriate book to aid in creative writing as the story is very imaginative through unusual events and unique characters.

Sent to Groosham Grange as a last resort by his frustrated parents, thirteen-year-old David Eliot quickly discovers that his new boarding school is very peculiar.

The humour is wicked and I am not sure about the early bits of humour, which seem to revolve around extreme forms of domestic violence. There were eleven more books in the series - the latest, Never Say Die, was published in 2017 - and they are now being developed for TV. Bursts of dark slapstick humor (such as David’s dad accidentally stabbing his mom in the opening chapter) mix oddly with its light horror plot, and unsubtle foreshadowing stunts the suspense.Una de las cosas que más disfruto de este libro es que el autor -a pesar de ser un libro para niños- no escatimó en incluir y describir temas bastantes oscuros. David's parents are far worse than the Dursleys, and so Groosham Grange makes a welcome change for David, except that there are clearly strange things going on there. Please help to demonstrate the notability of the topic by citing reliable secondary sources that are independent of the topic and provide significant coverage of it beyond a mere trivial mention. Es un libro para niños, sobre una escuela especial, para niños especiales y sí, fue antes de Harry Potter. I find that portraying the main friendship of the book as male/female is excellent to focus in on gender dimensions as primary school children are often male versus female but this book challenges that idealogy.
