My one gripe might be that the rubber sole is only glued to the midsole, and so over time the sole has started to come loose. Given the durability and quality of the Jim Green upper, most people find they wear the sole away numerous times before the upper eventually gives way. To the best of my knowledge the creasing/grain break could just be an issue with my pair, but ultimately it’s a non-issue for me- I bought these to be work boots and hikers so I don’t expect them to be pretty anyway.
However, after just a few hours of wearing it around the office, the leather started conforming to my feet and I found myself grinning for no reason – the magic of a leather boot. With the future of our wilderness areas in the hands of those with boots on the ground, Jim Green Footwear and The Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA) have come together to make sure this issue is addressed. I would have given them 5 stars but for me they were unsuitable and impossible to break in after many miles and tries this 3 stars.I had worn boots that always push my toes together and end up being uncomfortable, plus super plush which I discovered gives me like knee pain after long day out. My complaint has less to do with the feel of the boots and more in the quality control or lack there of and how the boots where shapes. If the boots are non PTFE or PU lined then pay special care to really work the wax into the seams and around the rand.
This boot shines on jeep track, loose, rocky terrain and undulating single track while carrying a heavy pack.
He is a qualified mountain guide, a keen rock climber and has a "thing" for technical footwear and backpacks. If you like minimalist shoes and wide toe boxes, these are great, the feel is similar to Lems (a little less room, bot for the ruggedness of this boot, it is a very minimal compromise for what you get). That new leather smell, the green laces on the dark brown exterior, the yellow calf-leather lining and the old-school, tried and tested, Vibram-style lug pattern, all make for a visually appealing boot that just screams adventure. I believe the break in period is different for everyone for me I felt it most in the heel area but nothing too bad.

The bootmakers will recommend their own brand of wax first but whether the boots are made by Brasher, Mendl, Scarpa or Zamberlan they will all, also recommend Nikwax.Sure, modern synthetic or hybrid boots are lighter and more breathable, but a beautifully-made leather boot is unbeatable when it comes to aesthetics and durability. The break-in took about 15 miles and then the boots are comfortable, however the break-in was brutal.
