About this deal

I did play a few songs from this album to my friend yesternight and she thought it was them, and I’m sure I would’ve needed a few minutes to realise myself if I hadn’t known what I was listening to in advance. Yet between these two book ends there is some forgettable stuff, the nadir being the *awful* Tabazan, Coleman’s voice unbearably tuneless as he appears to take the piss out of Robert Smith over a generic “badass 80s” track.

The first track i heard from this album was actually "Eighties", a song that did nothing for me then and nothing for me now.The tracks are noticeably shorter and more concise than other efforts as well, but definitely more rock than pop to my ears. The album finds the band caught between their earlier aggression and a calmer, more immediately accessible approach. As mentioned from other reviews each one of the albums' songs are great and it really is a matter of personal taste, they all loosely stick to the same sound.

They had done some solid work previously, but they were simply striving for different sounds than i drift toward. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Songs like “Eighties” and “Love Like Blood” put these guys into the mainstream, if only for a short while. At gunpoint I'd pick 'Night Time,' 'Love Like Blood' or the most infamous song to be ripped off by Nirvana 'Eighties,' although 'Kings and Queens' and 'Europe' are extremely close. Jaz Coleman’s vocals and synth are also another strong melodic front; very pleasing choruses especially.Heavy on the synths, _Night Time_ still manages to retain the dark, sometimes unnerving lyrics and sound that the previous Killing Joke albums delivered. It’s closer to The Cure than anything else, as though it were THE album they were meant to make but didn’t because they spent the mid ‘80s being quite, well, mid. Many songs here still find their way into the band’s very heavy recent live performances without feeling out of place in the least. It might be Killing Joke’s, but it’s not at all far removed from what you might expect by that description. True, the songs aren't asmassively guitar heavy a la 'Pandemonium' or 'Pylon,' or at least not heavy guitar, but still, there is a lot of and epic arpeggios to keep riff fiends happy, altough they sound more 80's U2 than chugging Metallica.

Night Time is the fifth studio album by English post-punk band Killing Joke, released in February 1985 by E. Like almost any ‘80s pop (and KJ) album, the song structures on here are pretty basic, and you certainly shouldn’t come in expecting anything subversive on that front. In general, the album wastes powerhouse drummer Paul Ferguson who isn’t given a lot to do, and everything feels neutered. We need to start adressing that bands polishing their sound is not necessarily a bad thing, and this album may be the best proof of that. Vote up content that is on-topic, within the rules/guidelines, and will likely stay relevant long-term. Mind you, you have to like the distinctive vocals, guitar and rhythms of this niche indy band though.

The opening title track is an excellent slab of club music for vampires with great programmed drums and guitar work, catchy and slick yet with a dash of nastiness that shows what the record should have been. and it would be even more definitive if it weren’t on the same album as the deserving classic “Love Like Blood”.
