About this deal

Now Caine delves into the real stories behind the gangs we think we know so well, revealing the hidden realities behind the myths. The wind has always dictated Vianne Rocher's every move, buffeting her from the French village of Lansquenet-sous-Tannes to the crowded streets of Paris. Again, I can't give more details without spoilers, but trust me, there were a few times when I said to myself 'Wait, I thought THIS was the way things were in that village at the end, not THAT'.

He is very much in love with Yanne (Vianne), viewing her as a sort of Cinderella, but he knows nothing of her true identity. In Love Is Not Enough, Mark’s first Audible Original, you’ll follow five real people over the course of six months as they navigate f--ked up romantic situations, ranging from dating app addiction to marital affairs to absurd fantasies.

In this follow-up to Chocolat Vianne Rouche and her daughter Anouk are living in the Montmartre section of Paris with new identities – Yanne Charbonneau and Annie – and a second daughter, Rosette. I would always invite someone to make up their own mind about a book but this really didn't cut it for me.

Vianne Rocher’s life has always been guided by the change of the winds…leaving the small french village, Lansquenet behind her, she has formed yet another new identity in the busy streets of Paris - the question is how long can she stay hidden for and why or what is she hiding from? I loved all the references to the Kindly Ones, who the central characters sometimes paralleled: the maiden, the mother, and the crone. The images of Hurakan and several other Aztec deities felt like they were more or less name dropped rather than fully explored; not enough for me to see their wider significance. There is a man who pretends to want something other than what he really wants, and a small group of somewhat lost individuals who might come together as a family. This time she has cast herself as Zozie de l’Alba, a suspiciously charming woman who sees in Anouk the simmering powers of a child on the edge of adulthood and rebellion. Vianne has another daughter, Rosette; Anouk has started secondary school; and the three of them are living in a rented chocolaterie in the Montmartre district of Paris.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I think that this and the suspension of disbelief required at the neat, tidy ending are the only things that make me give it a four instead of a five (a five for me is "I WILL reread this! Cloaked in a new identity, that of widow Yanne Charbonneau, she opens a chocolaterie on a small Montmartre street, determined to still the wind at last and keep her daughters, Anouk and baby Rosette, safe. I found this a dark and tense read, told as it was from the points of view of Vianne, Anouk and Zozie - it took me a few chapters to realise that the symbols at the beginning of the chapters depicted which character was speaking - cat for Zozie, sun for Vianne and moon for Anouk.in Celtic mythology, battle each other at Yule and midsummer to see who will rule over the next half of the year. Anouk got to know him when she tried the new attitude Zozie taught her, as a personal dare, and they became friends almost immediately. Suzanne once a friend of Anouk, she abandoned her to be part of the popular crowd, and is now one of Anouk's principal tormentors.
