About this deal

Only two singles were released from the album, Island Of Lost Souls (b-side: Dragonfly) and War Child (b-side: Little Ceasar). So Chris and Debbie took a gamble in prioritizing her solo career over the band and they lost badly. All well and good, perhaps, but the austere, foreboding tone of this record suggests that Blondie has forgotten how to have a good time, and how to make one. I adore the story, it's about a woman trying to play games with a man, and the woman ends up getting "played" by the man. However, one imitation, the lead single "Island of Lost Souls" (an attempt to recreate the global chart-topper "The Tide is High") works surprisingly well and features a memorable melody and lyrics from Harry.

I guess part of the reason why some people think this is the worst Blondie album ever is because it's so damn serious. I understand all the fuss and negative attention this album got over 30 years ago, but for me "The Hunter" is a thing of beauty (minus the hideous album cover). You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Despite their transparent Top Forty aspirations, these two songs do play into the record’s overall concept. There are many pop culture references and then modern issues mentioned throughout the album, such as The Beatles being referenced in “ English Boys” in response to John Lennon's death and military conflicts in Cambodia and the Middle East being referenced in “ War Child. Ignore The Album Cover, The Record Rocks Ignore the idiotic album cover of Deborah Harry looking like Lassie the Collie and rescue dog.

A curiously poetic and mysterious lyric, delivered in a dreamier side to Harry's voice, glides over the pulsating tribal drums of Clem Burke. War Child”: a fierce electro-disco with stabs of percussion and wind instruments – again, a faultless track. The Hunter is the sixth studio album by American rock band Blondie, released on May 24, 1982, by Chrysalis Records. In summary, this is an excellent album that suffered from a terrible album cover, poor lead off single, no number 1 pop songs, and a failed tour due to health problems.
