On a Monday I usually take part in a Goodreads Monday meme hosted by Lauren’s Page Turners, where you take a book from your Goodreads list, say why you want to read it, and see what other people thought of it. The whole book is in black and white, which while you wouldn't think is a big deal, it actually takes a lot out of the book. While social media certainly isn't the biggest factor in becoming a successful author, it is a great way to connect with potential readers. Memes create a playful activity that follows a shared set of rules and gives a (shared) voice, which may generate togetherness and political identities but also increase polarization. This is where I take a look back at what I was reading this time last year (or the year before or the year before that…) and compare it to what I am reading now. You would probably be better off with a career in just about anything else aside from venomous snake wrangler. It was later that day that I learned the hard lesson of just how different movie adaptations can be to their source material.
Just remember to create a folder to save them to or else all those memes will end up in your camera roll, to be lost forever. But these little slices of popular culture are also a great option for indie authors who want to maintain an online presence. The key with marketing yourself as an author with funny book memes is to work on the captions and make it clear—especially if they're recycled memes—how it applies to your story or world.

If there are some memes that did terribly, you can skip those and make note of the style or tone, to avoid future ones like that. There's nothing quite like sharing a meme about a good book or your favorite fictional character that gets a good laugh. Just remember that it's good online etiquette to then give them credit by tagging their profile in the caption or naming them appropriately.

The chapters in this book allow us to chart the playful politics of memes and how they establish or push frontiers in various political, cultural, and platform-specific contexts. I wish I enjoyed reading ebooks but they have too many problems for me (doesn’t feel like a book, can’t visually see how far I am – that’s more important than knowing the percentage, seeing it doesn’t instantly make me remember the book I am reading).
