About this deal

Introduced by Augustinian friars, these cookies are made in honor of San Nicolas de Tolentino, whose image is pressed on the sanikulas using a traditional wooden mould. They’re three delicious flavours available: White Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Black Chocolate and Caramel. In Spanish, “lengua de gato” means “cat’s tongue,” which refers to the thin, elongated shape of this biscuit. Similar in taste to galletas de patatas, the paborita is a crispy, golden brown, and flaky disc-shaped biscuit. Many of these were introduced by the Spaniards, later adapted to cater to Filipino tastes, ingredients, and preferences.

Some food bloggers as early as the mid 2000’s put forth a theory that the name, despite how it comes off, was born out of good intentions, as perhaps Spaniards came across the similarly crafted Filipino cookies rosquillos and wanted to create their own version, while paying respect to the people that authored the original biscuit. Alfajores in other countries are coated in desiccated coconut or dipped in chocolate, but the Filipino version is a simple cookie sandwich with a caramel filling. white chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, skimmed MILK powder, LACTOSE, whey powder, MILK fat, emulsifier: sunflower lecithin, flavor), WHEAT flour, sugar, palm oil, defatted cocoa powder 3 %, glucose and fructose syrup, raising agents (ammonium and sodium carbonates), salt, whey powder, emulsifier: lecithin (contains WHEAT), antioxidants (E 304, E 306), aroma. The protest objected to the use of the name "Filipinos", a term which can refer to the people of the Philippines, to market cookie and pretzel snacks and demanded that Nabisco stop selling the product until the brand name was changed. The Department of Trade investigated the product’s entry, with then Secretary Ramon Lopez citing trademark laws. Without going full Think-Piece mode, it has been an observation that there are only two reactions to this biscuit brand (that don’t necessarily contradict one another). Made with flour, baking soda, sugar, shortening, and eggs, rosquillos biscuits hail from Lilian, Cebu and were created in 1907.

Those deeply aware of Filipino colonial history are most likely to be insulted by the—let’s just say—explicit packaging, or at the very least likely to give it some major side-eye. However, those with the unwavering—and ungodly—ability to retain gigabytes of weird historical trivia will undoubtedly remember the time Filipinos were instead at the forefront of one of the world’s strangest chocolate controversies. These scrumptious biscuits are infused with the tangy taste of red berries and generously coated with smooth, creamy white chocolate. Recipients: No data will be transferred to third parties, except legal obligation or except to national supplier companies and treatment managers. Whether you indulge in these treats for a kick-start to your morning, afternoon tea, or even a cheeky midnight snack, Filipino biscuits are nostalgic delights that add a spring to your step, every time.Their authentic dark chocolate is perfect for enjoying those special moments: dinners with friends, a movie night at home or an evening on the terrace. Though the Filipinos snack isn't exactly permanently at the forefront of our collective consciousness (the Lord knows we have more at stake), the fact that it continues to be sold elsewhere in the world means that every so often, it gets brought up. Available year-round but especially popular around Christmas time for gifting, lengua de gato are one of the best-known Filipino biscuits, and for good reason.

In France, Spain, Portugal and the Nordic countries they are produced and sold under the 'Artiach' brand name.Taking the biscuit for the most needlessly controversial chocolate this side of the globe, the “Filipinos” is a snack that isn't even officially sold here. Enjoy the best company at any time of day: with delicious Milk Chocolate Filipinos, perfect for sharing.
