About this deal

Into this coven of chaos stumbles gorgeous, clueless Josh, their new landlord – and he’s just discovered his tenants haven’t paid rent since the 1700s! Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review! A house that changes by the moods of the witches, having a tree and bunch of animals: singing parrots, dancing rats, nervous goat, fighting cat-dog. I think if this was edited well it could be really good but I also wouldn’t discourage people from giving it a go as I did find myself unable to stop reading it towards the end. She did actually do most of her homework, but quickly so as to have more time to stare out of the window thinking about heroes. Essie actually says some really gross things to Josh about wanting the rent and I couldn’t understand why she resented him so much. At several times, I had to reread sentences because I simply couldn't understand them (excluding the ye-olde-english-sentences). He has left his former home and job in Seattle and has moved to England (he has dual citizenship thanks to his father) but he has no money and the house needs a lot of work.Unauthorized use and/or duplication of this material without express and written permission from this site’s author and/or owner is strictly prohibited. All Essie ever wanted was to have a normal life but in the end she found herself drawn back to Beldam House.

They provided different perspectives on the magic world and made the story's world feel more multi-dimensional.The secondary characters, particularly the "family" of witches living in Beldam House were fantastic fun and gave depth to the story.

However, as Josh becomes entangled in the lives of the eccentric witches, Essie finds herself drawn to him, especially after a long-held family secret is revealed. Essie explains early that she is afraid of having close relationships with others because she has hurt someone before with her ice powers. Essie decides to keep Josh at broomstick’s length but when Josh’s very pregnant step sister moves to live with him and hires Blessing as her midwife, two families get a little closer. The only reason I didn't was because I wanted to finish it, only to be able to vent my utter dislike of this book in this review. Josh is very distrustful of women because all the women in his life are written as outright villains, let's unpack that huge issue later. It just tries to tackle way too much, and introduces too many topics including some quite heavy themes around consent. While I don’t mind silly witchy stories, I am always impressed when an author does understand the nature of the Craft and conveys it through their writing. I normally avoid any time travel stories because they are rarely done well so I think I would have avoided this if I was aware there was time travel in it.

I'm not normally one for light reading but I thought I'd try something relaxing for a change and as it is spooky season, I thought I'd give this a go. Thank you HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review. I was a bit unsure about the story at the start, I found it more challenging than I expected to keep track of the various witches living in Beldam House and the direction in which the story was headed. Set in the charming village of Good Winter, the novel introduces us to the quirky inhabitants of Beldam House, a large and ever-changing mansion. The tone, characters' personalities, plot, magic system, and settings' descriptions were changing so frequently that this book had no cohesion.

To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose. I usually read books within a week and refuse to DNF, so this book has been haunting my peace of mind. I enjoyed the connection between them as well as the side characters, who really made the story for me. Josh and Essie are flawed but still optimistic about love and life even though they've been through some traumatic experiences.
