I found a brown pair of pants that we were able to sew fake fabric “patches” onto and the puffy shirt was from another previous costume. One of my favorite childhood (yes, I’m that old) films is Labyrinth, featuring David Bowie being typical gender-fluid David Bowie in his portrayal of the Goblin King. As you can see, I finally did manage to get some black EVA foam, but for some reason chose to use some other random colours as well. This was done using an iron and some crumpled up tinfoil, to give the foam a sort of faux leather look. I gave the raised bits of the costume a bit more of the brown paint to try and bring out the details a bit more, before also spraying everything with a layer of glossy sealant.

I used Velcro to attach these small bones because I wanted to be able to fine tune the positioning a bit (And I also wanted to make sure I could remove/replace the bone without having to remake the entire tunic). I cut the hard plastic part off and painted them red, then attached elastic or velco to make them wearable.
