About this deal

After reading other reviews of this book, I'm glad I'm not the only one that dislikes the new format. I have to say I'm not entirely keen on the latest incarnation: less detail than before, too many images too many text boxes with minimal details (or duplicating what is written elsewhere) - more like a comic that my trusted 'go to' travel guide.

And it's still a lot easier to open up a guidebook than to connect to the internet via phone or netbook, especially when you're in the wilds of Laos or Cambodia. Over the past four decades, we've printed over 145 million guidebooks and grown a dedicated, passionate global community of travellers. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Detailed and easy-to-read, they’re printed in full colour to make travelling and trip planning a breeze.

Overall I'm pretty disappointed and sad that LP have decided to go in this direction with their guidebooks. You’ll also find our content online, and in mobile apps, videos, 14 languages, armchair and lifestyle books, ebooks, and more, enabling you to explore every day.

This new edition is totally useless, because the traditional strong points of its format were thrown out the window.

I have learned to take all reviews with a grain of salt, but I think most really savvy travelers lost faith in LP quite a while ago. Vietnamese street names are notoriously long (most are named after people), so digital maps trump paper ones for many travellers. Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler, this guide is an essential resource for unlocking the wonders of Vietnam.

Vietnam is also a special case - really think that everyone's best bet is word of mouth from a really close friend. Experience Hanoi’s labyrinth-like Old Quarter, kayak in Halong Bay, and wander through historic Hoi An; all with your trusted travel companion. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I used to love that they covered stuff like the arts and books and CDs and different things so I could learn more about the culture through the arts.
