I am not a very ‘Technical’ savvy person and don’t like gadgets very much, but I did want a Dash-Cam and I wanted it to be easier than my TV planner to understand. Today we’re delighted to announce the launch of the two latest additions to the Nextbase Dash Cam range, the 112 and the 412GW.

We supply memory for mobile phones and digital cameras specialising in a vast collection of SD Cards, Micro SD Cards and USB Flash Drives. That way it remains protected on the Laptop and protected files on the CAM can be deleted to free space. Go into the Dash Cam menu and make sure that Parking Mode is turned off (if applicable), if Parking Mode is enabled, this will affect the test. You will need a separate power supply and SD card as it will not connect to your 412GW, but can be used as a Camera facing rearwards.

The small files allow you to view or share specific moments, for example with your insurance company after an incident, without requiring ‘Technical’ editing skills. The supplied 4m power lead is a good length to feed around the door frame and windscreen although, as with many other in-car devices, the lead is fitted into its own 12V plug meaning that if you need to use a phone charger or satnav then you’ll have to invest in a splitter for the power socket. The DUO HD is a favourite with Taxi drivers, offering front and rear (or cab) recording simultaneously. Minor drawbacks - it often protects a segment if driving over a road lump or similar and when handling it, the on/off button is so placed that it can easily be triggered. However as a stand alone as the rear camera, I have had to switch off the parking mode on the 212 , as it kept triggering and draining its internal batteries.The top of the range 612GW is top of the range - offering 4k UHD picture quality and all the tech and features you can imagine!

However, even with the latest version, I was unable to update the firmware on the DashCam - it detects there’s an update, tells you to put it into update mode but then still can’t update the firmware. The exposure can be adjusted to compensate for low light but you have to remember to set it again for brighter conditions.I’ve not even mentioned the great Wifi feature, essentially, once App is downloaded to your iOS or Android phone/tablet you can connect to the CAM and perform file management and Live viewing from your car seat (not driving of course) … not sure how often I personally would use this, but could be helpful if I wanted to see how many Facebook ‘Likes’ I could get for beating the Stig around the Top Gear track. The Dash Cam Viewer App will work with all Nextbase Wifi Enabled Dash Cams - currently, that's the 312GW, 412GW, 512GW, 612GW, Mirror and DUO HD.
