I was a little worried about purchasing this film due to watching a YouTube video saying this particular release doesn’t have true HDR! Blacks are immense, both firm and inky deep with Deakins sculpting the film with light and shadows (silhouettes are incredibly refined).

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Sylvia Hoek's brilliant Luv, Niander's right-hand woman, is a ferocious but curiously immature creation. Conversely, Jared Leto's enigmatic Niander Wallace is a human who is completely void of all humanity to the point that he is more robotic and soulless than the Replicants he creates. Blade Runner 2049 builds a whole universe of big questions to answer; layer upon layer of metaphysical reflection which could fuel a whole franchise that fans might actually champion to see. That said, as a thoughtful, slow, and deliberate movie that raises a lot of thematic ideas, but ultimately lets you come to your own conclusions, it's not for everyone.The trailers did a terrible job of selling the film, so those expecting a rip-roaring sci-fi action movie will not get that film.

The original film touched upon these themes, but they are given more weight in 2049, which makes for a more engaging story.Blade Runner 101 (HD, 11:22) This is a collection of six short featurettes that can be watched using a ‘play all’ feature and look at the film's invented world, the design aspects and how they relate to the original film. It can almost at times sound like the THX logo intro sequence that can seen at the beginning of some films.

Note that I "enhanced" the chroma image to brighten and increase the contrast to see the details a bit better. UPDATE: At the time I wrote the article below, a contact I knew who had an early copy of the UK/European Edition of Blade Runner 2049 didn't believe that it had a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. The fact that these sentient creatures are living slaves for a race who wants to feel like they’re not doing something wrong. Seriously, unless you are viewing a screen with >60" sitting at a relatively close distance, or desire the HDR effect, true 4K is a "niche". The only way this presentation could have been better is if Dolby Vision had been available on disc, but what's here is likely to be the best there ever will be on physical media.
