About this deal

I hadn't realised just what a good player she was and how many Tournaments she won; also her Broadcasting career was second to none covering all the major sporting events and some non-sporting, in a career lasting thirty years. Overall a good read about a sporting journey and what happens next in terms of career after that finishes. This is an interesting read of one of this countries favourite personalities that I enjoyed a lot more than I expected to. If you are a tennis fan, and a Sue Barker fan, the lady herself reading her autobiography is an enjoyable listen.

Going all in for her once-only autobiography, Sue takes us inside the showbizzy world of '70s and early '80s tennis, dating the stars, hitting the headlines. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I loved the stories of her time on the circuit which seems magical now and made me nostalgic for those heady days when you knew all the players especially in the women’s game! Not especially scandalous or introspective, it is a breezy stroll through her tennis career but heavier on the tv career probably.I admired Sue before listening to this book and even more so now for her no nonsense attitude and the utmost professionalism she brought to her work. She reveals the battles she fought for hard-won success in two careers, gives us a ringside seat on the nation's biggest sporting dramas, and a fascinating insider's understanding of competitors under pressure. Actually I have to get that comment right, Sue's two careers, a tennis career, and a television career.

I have enjoyed watching Sue Barker present the Wimbledon fortnight and initially on Question of Sport. It is then that her second career started and she became a sports commentator, not only for tennis but other sports too: Royal Ascot, Olympics, London Marathon, Commonwealth Games, World Athletics Championships, Winter Olympics Championships, BBC Sports Personality of the year and many more. And now, after four decades on camera encouraging other legends to share their stories, she is telling her own. What you do get reading this book is the warmth of a tennis player and television celebrity who is close to her family and made lots of true friends throughout her life, many of who are household names. And that’s not a story unique to women’s football; from motorsport to gymnastics via tennis and more, there are women who have faced societal prejudices and personal and professional challenges to become the best at what they do.
