I've been waiting for many years for someone to accurately recreate the legendary Telefunken 251 microphone.

Vocals sound fantastic even on a flat EQ, and a small amount of processing delivers broadcast-level audio. The self-noise level is just 16db SPL (A weighted) and the handling noise is also low; it’s perfectly possible to use the Ethos on a boom arm without a shock mount. Some microphones, especially budget condenser mics, can end up “fatiguing” to listen to for long periods of time. I also tried the ETHOS on numerous instrumental sources, and found it a very useful studio workhorse. The Austrian Audio had a very slight edge on sound, but the Ethos won out because its sound was also excellent and its mounting system is incredibly well-thought-out.The high level of craftsmanship is immediately obvious and the unmistakable care and dedication that went into its design and construction is simply magnificent. It seems to act like a good mix between the smoothness of a good dynamic with the detail of a condenser.

You can use it for any kind of content creation you can think of, but as the saying goes, you spend money to make money, and this is a purchase best viewed as an investment. Keyboard typing tests are usually at best seen as rough examples of how a keyboard will sound in real life. Some of these issues can be overcome by speaking closer to the microphone – roughly 2-3 inches away. Whether hung from a boom arm or affixed to a mic stand, the supplied mount from Triad-Orbit lets you get optimal and stable mic placement without trouble.If you're planning to record narration exclusively, you could happily connect this mic to a basic XLR mixer without boosting or live effects and edit recordings later. In particular, the level of detail present in the initial transient is responsible for much of our sense of content, meaning, and frequency balance.

It’s manufactured from gleaming stainless steel (though if the gleaming bothers you, a matte black version is available as a cost option) and the rigid grille that surrounds the sides of the capsule is a work of art.
