It's a long, complicated history punctuated by fights, friendship, family, and an attraction that strains his iron willpower.And of course you have the whole scary villain character and story line Remi is all secretive about. On the flip side, the woman causing all of this need and conflict always had feelings for this man but every time something might have finally happened between them. So wrap up warm, grab a hot chocolate and take the ferry across to the island……it doesn’t disappoint. Well I never thought I would ever give a Lucy Score book less then 4 stars but here we are, I really didn’t enjoy this book. There are wonderful, small-town gossipy folks, tight-knit to the core, that made the town seem like a character of its own.

There was a well-rounded cast of characters from Remi’s parents to Brick’s brother, and her sister, plus so many more. For all the times, Brick and Remi were tempted to take their attraction to the next step, Brick was the one who always hesitated because, one, he felt like he couldn’t be the person Remi wanted to be (Brick’s words), and in Brick’s mind the fact that Remi was his brother’s high school sweetheart, Ex wife’s best friend, and boss’s daughter, he felt like it would have been over complicated with Remi. This is after he’d pushed her away for years and had gotten married and divorced to her best friend. Her side character development is pretty great, as I was invested in her sister and friend and even the niece and nephew were well developed. but the h having once been with his brother and him having married her best friend is a little too much keeping it in the family for me. You don’t fall for your brother’s high school sweetheart, your boss’s daughter, or your ex-wife’s best friend. It made me think that it would be a cheap summer / holiday romance and it wouldn’t be my cuppa, but that was not the case. So let’s sum it up - the sex was like a day at the mud hole - dirty, wet, endless and ridiculous with a lot of monster trucks.

HATED all the cross sleeping around history, characters all still fine with one another and so on after their histories together. Ultimately I decided to marry her best friend to “make her hurt the way I did” and “ruin any chance I had with her” but also now I’m punishing her for not trusting me. Our hero was magnificently endowed and had the stamina of ten, that must have been why there were so many unduly long, detailed sex scenes which I just tuned out in the end because they became repetitive and boring. Then Remi and Spencer, Brick’s younger brother who were high-school sweethearts and took each other’s virginity.I loved the dual POVs and getting to see how Remi and Brick each saw themselves and how other people saw them. They had a brilliant frenemies vibe happening and I loved the tension, animosity, and verbal sparring. Somehow, after leaving Remi broken and used and on the floor, the takeaway is that SHE is using HIM and she has to apologize and convince him she loves him. There is something in the past, maybe not even of their doing that has caused this feeling of not being able to fully love the other person.
