About this deal

So, I picked up the German copy as one of the select games I brought back from my one and only Essen trip in 2013. Ghost Fighin’ Treasure Hunters is a family friendly co-op game with simple roll and move mechanics that still manages to be engaging. I know Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters was award winning a few years back, but see shockingly little recommendation for it. It feels like we’re on co-op mode in Luigi’s Mansion in real life, and we’re all trying to make it out alive. While, in all honestly, you probably could do that, that’s not how this expansion is written to be played.

Move – Now you move you player token a number of spaces up to the number on the die (though there is no obligation to move at all if you don’t want to move).Lord Ras may be defeated by NINJAGO Kai on his all-terrain motorcycle equipped with golden rammers as.

The most common type of card gives the letter of one of the rooms in the mansion, including the two new rooms in the cellar.Once all of the Cursed Treasures are safely placed in the cellar, all of the kids still have to escape the house. Then we wrap up with a short week in review where Moe shares the games he got for his birthday and some thoughts on both Crokinole and The Ghost in the Machine. There are more options on each turn, more potential paths to take and more to worry about with the curses, jinxed items, and of course the Ghost King. It makes Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters feel more balanced, polished and more of a game for hobby gamers and less of a mass-market kids game. But I have no shame to admit that the original version of the game - simply trying to get the treasures out by any means necessary before six rooms are haunted - is still quite enough challenge for us.

Not only that, but there are cards that make some of the doors lock so that your players can’t enter or exit when the locked doors are in play. These tiles indicate a connection between the room they are in and all other rooms with Secret Passage Tiles. Instead of a bunch of modules, you get a totally new mode of play, something that, to me, actually feels more like Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters 2. I think the perfect game combines an imaginative and inspiring theme with finely tuned and engaging mechanics.Reveal a ghost card – If there was a ghost token on the die (again, any result other than a 6), you then reveal the top card from the ghost deck. While it may be marketed to kids, this game has more than enough meat on it for hobby board gamers to enjoy, especially when you play at the higher difficulty settings. I love co-op games and whilst this is undoubtedly aimed at the family market, it makes for a really quick and light co-op fun for adults too. As for Creepy Cellar, if you already own Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters and like it, even just a little bit, this is a must purchase (assuming you can find it). Strangely, despite all the extra barriers the game seems to be throwing against the players, it (at least on the basis of the plays so far) does not seem to be considerably harder to win.

I'd been greatly enjoying the base game with my kids, as well as family friends - with the latter as a casual, easy to pick up game. I had assumed a 2 player game was going to be harder since you had fewer people to carry gems, but the added focus seemed to compensate. There is one Cursed Treasure Tile that reduces your movement by one, one that makes you draw two ghost cards each turn instead of one, one that requires you to have an ally with you when fighting, one that stops you from using the secret passages we just talked about, one terrible one that adds a ghost to the room you are in before moving and one that pins you if you are in a room with a ghost.

The ghost cards will generally spawn new ghosts on the board, but they can also lock doors, limiting the movement of the treasure hunters. Even if you are carrying wealth, you may have to combat Ghosts and Hauntings at certain points in the game. All you want to do when you see this game is pick up the pieces and play around with them a little bit and everything is perfectly sized so that kids can pick it up and place it around the house as the game demands.
