About this deal

I really don't like what was done to Hades's character and how Persephone takes over the Underworld like it's hers to do whatever she pleases with when she has been there for all of five minutes, and Hades doesn't care. She spends about 75% of the novel complaining how everyone just goes around and takes things out of pure entertainment things that are not theirs, and yet, she does exactly this! I think she's probably aware that Persephone and Demeter predate most of the Olympians by about a thousand years, that we have pretty compelling evidence for this and that Hades was added on as an after thought much later when a more patriarchal religion subsumed those early goddess worship cults. It's equal parts rom-com and fantasy while effortlessly weaving in Greek mythology elements and characters. Persephone and Hades felt too much like friends in this story so when a romance does finally develop, it felt weird like they shouldn't be doing this.

Different topics are dealt with which makes the reader connect to the characters on a deeper and emotional level. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. If Hades is feeling anything like this then it’s only a matter of time until we make some stupid, reckless decision – and let’s face it, they’re my speciality. I liked it enough to carry on reading, hoping it would improve, but I wasn't keen on the characters and how they were written.Portrayed as a romance with a sexy love interest, this book was supposed to be romantic with dreamy characters but my god was it slow and none of the characters riveting. Like Persephone, Hades hides his true self from the world, playing the ruthless part his subjects and the other gods expect of him, whilst yearning for the things that bring him true happiness (yes, this version of Hades is adorably artistic). I think this book was supposed to be about female empowerment and all the 'down with the patriarchy' sort of things, but I personally just find it hard to relate to problems such as having men lining up to court me, let alone men who are so gorgoeus, no beauty as such existed before. That’s all true here, as Persephone and Hades dance around their true feelings, both of them frightened of ruining the special bond they’ve formed.

However it's also a pretty intelligent look at power, the desire for it and what it costs to be truly free. And when she meets the rude and annoying ruler of the underworld she traps him into giving her shelter and time find a way out of the marriage that’s waiting for her. I was way more focused on the character elements of the story and persephone’s personal growth, and I actually didn’t really care for the actual plot of the book weirdly. Zeus sought to belittle his daughter, but jumping into hell gives Persephone the courage to finally stand up for herself.
