I'm not one to get my kid a smartphone just yet, but we had considered graduating her with a big kid tablet in the form of an iPad this Christmas. The larger HD screen is great for those who watch a lot of content, and the speedier hardware stopped children getting impatient. inch Full HD display, an octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage, and while the front and rear cameras aren’t spectacular they’re more than capable for video chat, messing around and everyday photography. This product was also designed for improved energy efficiency, earning the ENERGY STAR certification.

While we want our kids to gain the skills to use to tech, we don’t feel comfortable unleashing the whole internet on them. We paid close attention to how durable it was, how engaged our children were and, of course, how much they got out of it. The only thing, it came without the case or a charger with which I have send back with the damaged tablet.It has enough varied content to keep almost any child entertained for hundreds of hours, as well as plenty of opportunities to weave education into their learning. Much like the fire phone (what a flop that was) it's massively underwhelming operating system holds it back.It comes with a thick case that can withstand drops, splashes, and maybe even the occasional temper tantrum. You can sideload apps if you know what you're doing, but we don't recommend it for security reasons. Battery life will vary based on device settings, usage and other factors such as web browsing and downloading content.

While this isn't an overly powerful slate, in everyday use the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro is a smooth performer with no stuttering or lag even in fairly demanding video games, and the user interface is instantly responsive. Use filters to adjust what they watch, play and learn based on your child’s age, so their content is always age-appropriate.

It's easy to draw up criteria of features to look for: A fast processor, user-friendly platform, portability, and battery life, to name a few. The kids loved it - they found it very easy to use and to get started with, and plenty of apps and games they like. You can even set educational goals and even set ‘learn first’ where your child has to meet educational goals before using any games or entertainment.

We could easily set up the apps she had on her previous one and the picture size and quality is so good. The tablet claims to have 12 hours battery life and in the 2 weeks we have had it I think I have only charged it twice, even after a 2 and a half-hour car journey where my daughter had it on constantly there was hardly any movement on the battery life. Set bedtime curfews and employ tighter controls on screen time and content when they are young and relax restrictions as they get older.
