About this deal

I fell in love with Grace, Elin, Beca (and Soozi) straight away, but it did take me a long time to warm to Alys. Ruth Jones is best known for her outstanding and award-winning television writing, most notably BBC One's Gavin and Stacey, which she co-wrote with James Corden and in which she played the incorrigible Nessa Jenkins. The end of this story is incredibly moving and brought me to tears (and I have never cried over a book before). PRAISE FOR RUTH JONES'Heartfelt, joyful, brave, utterly compelling' RACHEL JOYCE'I adored it' JOANNA CANNON'Joyful, life-affirming' ADELE PARKS'Beautifully warm and totally absorbing.

It is a joy-filled, life-affirming, sob-inducing novel - with characters you'll come to know and love - from no.

Grace is close to Alys’s own daughter, Elin, but the family rift runs deep, affecting Elin’s marriage and her relationship with her teenage daughter Beca. We follow Elin as she struggles with her marriage, and Becca as she discovers love for the first time.

It got into the depths of mother / daughter / grandmother / great grandmother relationships in such a wonderful and both heartbreaking and endearing way. Meanwhile Grace’s great-grand-daughter Beca is oblivious to all these worries, too busy navigating the highs and lows of teenage life and keeping secrets of her own. Ruth's second novel, Us Three , was an instant Sunday Times bestseller in hardback and paperback and has sold almost a quarter of a million copies. This is a wonderful story about the relationships between different generations of women within the same family.Female characters that cross over many generations always makes for a great read, and in this novel from Ruth Jones, her latest that is no exception. The depth of emotion between Judy, Chloe and baby Bobo is wonderful to watch, and in Love Untold this intergenerational maternal web is beautifully captured by Ruth Jones.

I predict late success with the paperback, it has been longlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction and is a superb summer read. The conflicts and emotions are real and raw and you’ll find yourself relating to so many arguments and points of tension. Widowed in her thirties, left to bring up a teenage daughter, Alys, she ran a boarding house with her friends John, and his sister Cassie for years until Cassie and John's ill-health forced them to move to a home where she visits them every day.Estranged from all of her family, blaming Grace for what has happened to her, it seems ironic that she suddenly reappears in all their lives. Her daughter, Alys reluctantly moves in with her but escapes to London as soon as she turned eighteen.

But Grace’s granddaughter, Elin, is also estranged from Alys and any reconciliation will cause huge problems in the family. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher / author for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book for review. Her debut novel Never Greener was chosen as WHSmith Fiction Book of the Year 2018, was nominated for Debut of the Year at the British Book Awards, was a Zoe Ball Book Club pick, and was a Sunday Times bestseller for fifteen weeks, three weeks at number one. Meanwhile Grace's great -grand-daughter Beca is oblivious to all these worries, too busy navigating the highs and lows of teenage life and keeping secrets of her own. This book looks at multi generation female relationships and familial ties as well as what bonds and binds mothers and daughters.
