About this deal

Family issues, financial debt and an unhappy girlfriend are just a few of the problems facing Archie MacDonald. Meanwhile, estate worker Golly and local teacher Katrina try to catch the gang who are stealing the estate's precious osprey eggs. Throughout the first three series of the show, while Archie was moping around with uberbitch Justine and droopy Katrina, fans were wishing the dozy young Laird would spot the perfect mate standing at the castle Aga. Archie gets cold feet and tries to persuade Lexie to join him in a quest to the USA offered by Kilwillie. Molly is devastated Archie is leaving and takes it out on Paul, while Golly tells the tale of 'Mad Malcolm' and Jess suspects Duncan is cheating on her with the ghost hunter’s daughter.

As the new laird to Glenbogle, Archie must accept Killwillie's challenge in competing against him in the annual Highland boat race.Lexie struggles to become the new Lady of Glenbogle after her marriage to Archie, but tries to continue some of her old duties, especially cooking. She does not know that the new cook, Irene, has been the chef of a large Highland hotel, and that this particular recipe was one of her specialities. Iona's former fiance comes to Glenbogle; Jess feels Golly overworks and undervalues him; Amy panics when she realizes she is ill-prepared for her college interview. Monarch of the Glen was plaid-coloured escapism of the best kind, full of charm and humour but with enough substance to keep more cynical viewers onside.

developing a relationship with Katrina, Archie faces obstacles: with his new Head Ranger, Fergal MacClure who is also attracted to Katrina, and with Lexie, who has her eye on the Laird. This is because the show is going off Netflix on February 9th *sniffle*, so I knew there was no way I'd be able to squeeze watched 26 episodes of a very feelsy show into a mere couple of weeks. Duncan's pen pal Marie-Helene decides to come to stay at Glenbogle; Duncan has been telling Marie-Helene he is Laird and Archie is forced to be Head Ranger for the week.

Paul accidentally burns down his tenant Iona's croft, while Molly is forced to get a job as a dinner lady after she, Donald and Ewan go to the races and spend the money for the new generator.

It was, however, a thoroughly entertaining series and over sixty-four episodes it was impossible not to fall for the dotty mix of characters who inhabited Glenbogle and its environs. My parents and younger brother and I watched the show in its entirety last year, having previously watched a few seasons several years ago. The final two series focused on new Laird Paul Bowman trying to modernise the estate, primarily starring Lloyd Owen, Tom Baker, Alexander Morton and Susan Hampshire. Molly finds out about Paul and plans to leave Glenbogle for a round-the-world trip with Andrew, upsetting Kilwillie.

A mysterious World War II fighter plane is found in the loch, and Isobel must cover up her godfather who was in the plane when it crashed.

The hole in the show resulting required the drafting in of an equally larger than life character and for the last two years of the series Hector`s race-driver younger brother Donald was drafted in - played by former Doctor Who Tom Baker. Archie's older sister Lizzie turns up with her boyfriend, Gerald, and a group of massage therapists intent on turning Glenbogle into a healing centre.
