I bought this to complete another set of books by this excellent author and cannot wait to read the whole series. But Felicia Carey is a selfish woman, believing her voice is her God-given gift that she must share with the world and her home is no longer Rockwood but the stage. She isn't used to being mistress and is grateful for the help of her faithful servants who assist her in both etiquette and expectations. Dilly's ability to bring the era alive the characters into believable entity's and the colourful expression and great pace leaves me, the reader, never wanting it to end! The characters are well-crafted, and the setting is full of historical details that immerse the reader in the story.

It was her wedding day… the roses and bluebells were blooming and their sweet-scent was filling the air, so why did Daisy feel the cold fingers of fear run down her spine? Unfortunately, Nancy is kidnapped by a gang of street urchins who believe her to be a lady of means and therefore a way ti feed themselves.

This is a great story - my only reservation would be that the reader should have read the previous two books in this series to make complete sense of all the plots. An entertaining read that kept me absorbed although some of the story lines towards the end became somewhat far fetched. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book as is is the fourth of the Rockwood chronicles which is compelling to the series of Dilly Court's books and I am looking forwrd to reading her fifth book of the series The Snow bride due to be released on October. Court began her career in commercial script writing, before embarking on the writing journey which would land her a position on the top of bestselling lists across almost three decades. Sitting at the computer for hours isn’t good for the figurethough,so Iusually takemy dog, Barley, for a walk instead – although he actually prefers riding in the car!

But despite the threat of being turned out onto the streets by the unscrupulous tallyman and the neverending struggle just to exist, Hetty is determined her family will never starve or want for a roof over their heads. This detail induces a kind of nostalgia that makes the reader feel they have lived through the time in the books. I just don’t think I’m a fan of Nancy to be honest, she never really redeemed herself to me in this one nor did she become any more interesting. At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills.Add in the ridiculous number of typos, poor grammar and phrases that are really not right for the time period and I’m left wondering why I bothered to finish it.
