About this deal

Minimal pressure required to operate, stylish and relatively compact design, doesn't create sharp edges

KitchenAid Classic Multifunction Can Opener/Bottle Opener, 8. KitchenAid Classic Multifunction Can Opener/Bottle Opener, 8.

In our experience, most can openers last a long time. The first part to falter is often the blade(s). They don't often break, but they inevitably become dull. With a small amount of effort and some care, you can sharpen the blades yourself, greatly extending the useful life of your can opener. Beware that the blades are sharp. Be careful whenever handling blades to avoid injury. Again this metric favored the electric models. It was hard to ignore that the Hamilton Beach Smooth Touch, Kitchen Mama, and Cuisinart Deluxe Electric require minimal effort to operate and produce open cans that are either smooth or sharp, but easy to manage. Each of these models merely involves attaching the can, pressing a button, and stepping away, and they open up cans with no additional effort necessary. The Hamilton Beach and Kitchen Mama resulted in the smoothest can and lids after opening up garbanzo beans or cans of tuna, leaving behind no sharp edges for kid- and adult-friendly finger preservation. We're all clumsy to an extent, and removing sharp edges from the equation is pretty sweet.A can opener basically does two things: It holds onto and rotates the can, and it cuts through the metal lid. Most metal can openers have a pair of hinged arms that you clamp onto the top of the can and hold closed either manually or with a latch while you turn a knob or hand crank attached to a sharp wheel that cuts the lid and a gear wheel that rotates the can. Other one-piece models clip onto the edge of the can and clamp themselves in place when you start turning the knob. The cut lid often has sharp edges, and many manual openers have magnets, mini-pliers, or other tools to remove and dispose of the lid without having to use your hands. If you're looking for a manual can opener that won't break the bank, this is a great option because it's reasonably priced and still does the job well. It earns extra points for ease of use and a slim design. During testing, we noticed and liked that this can opener is quite lightweight compared to all-metal models. We find it would be a good option for individuals with weaker or arthritic hands since there's no squeezing required to use.

KitchenAid Can Opener, Tin and Bottle Opener, Stainless Steel

Manual can openers don’t tend to come with very many bells and whistles. But some models are equipped with some extra features that you might find helpful. Can openers with a magnetic or clipping lid-catching tool will save you the hassle of fishing the lid out of your next can of beans. Other can openers come with bottle openers and pull-tab grabbers to help you open a broader range of canned goods.
