About this deal

The sub-characters were also very likeable; Eileen, Sal, Freya, Ben, Reggie and even the overpowering Angela at times, Sunday lunch at her house sounds like a blast!

The premise peels away the layers that bind our perception of love, loss, family, friendships, and simplifies our understanding of relationships. The flashbacks in this really made my heart melt, conjuring up one of my all-time favourite love stories Where Rainbows End, and I spent the whole book like please get to this point again! Their 12 year old daughter is, of course, not at all happy about the break-up of her parents' marriage and added to her burgeoning adolescence, tends to live her days in the fog of confusion. Their lives have diverged: Fin lives in the USA while Eleanor, in the UK is trying to recover from the break-up of a long-term relationship. I hated Sal, nagging her "best friend" to get out and date after 3 months of being single from a 16 year relationship where she was emotionally abused and then abandoned.

The most heart-warming and emotional romcom of 2022, perfect for fans of Mhairi McFarlane and Sophie Cousens. We follow them both as they make new friends, paint, take photographs, work, flirt and keep bumping into each other. In this newest novel by Canadian author Carol Mason, we meet Celine, a woman who has been married for 13 years and is now newly divorced from Mike, a radio producer for a popular talk show. Two strangers met in a foreign land and spent all of 4 days together and that had an impact and finally destroyed their future relationship with other people?

I thought that the female lead would have been much better with the secondary love interest but in the end, I wish that he'd never been introduced at all given how our female lead treated that sweet man! I do warn you though, reading this will take everything to hold yourself together and not fall apart in a complete mess. They have an unhealthy co-dependent relationship as addict and enabler for most of the story, which we see them intending to change but with no actual change to show for the years they have known each other. The book was also injected with some humour, with entertaining support characters who were involved with interesting situations themselves. Stubborn in her ways and obsessively planning her life you get the sense that she needs control and as we learn more about her you can understand why. The themes of family, forgiveness, loss, and grief were so thoughtfully portrayed throughout the whole storyline. Both of them have closer, healthier friendships with other people (Sal, Rob, Reggie, Nurse Clara) and I didn’t feel much chemistry between them either – I felt Eleanor had much more chemistry with Ben, and I kept expecting Fin to realise that he was actually gay or asexual as I got no vibes that he was attracted to any of the women we see him with.

I had to keep the book down a couple of times, but because I HAD TO KNOW what went wrong between Fin and Eleanor in the past, I finished reading it quite quickly. I found it deeply touching because I myself identify with the story in some ways, so this film is then that but expanded. Thinking that she never loved Mike in the same way her marriage falls apart and she divorces Mike and is back in touch with the also now divorced Patrick. She has a curiosity for life and has a passion for all things well-being, one day hoping to create her own retreat space with a lot of dogs! The H feels attacked and decides to travel around the world to get away from his broken family and their interventions.

Since her time visiting The Love Market in Vietnam, years before her marriage, she's only been able to think about another man, Patrick. All that time ago she’d spent four blissful days in Vietnam with Patrick but the memory remains indelible upon her heart.

The Love Market is absolutely one of the best Chick Lit novels out there and definitely a perfect read for the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday. The relationship between these two was raw and honest and their final scenes together absolutely broke my heart. Celine and Mark are very fleshed out characters, Mason is as great with character development as she is with prose.
