About this deal

Players moved their pieces by speaking the name of the piece and the square it was to move to by algebraic notation. For example, 'Knight to E5'. Aside from the self-moving pieces, the rules of Wizard's Chess were exactly the same as Muggle chess. The moving pieces seemed to be reasonably sentient, as seen when Harry Potter began learning how to play the game, he used Seamus Finnigan's pieces, which offered him conflicting advice because they knew that he was not a good or experienced player. [1] Sentience [ ] The first one, not so popular, was the one where wizard's chess has been introduced. It was Ron playing against Harry in the hall, while Hermione was calling the game ''barbarian'' since the pieces were not captured but destroyed. Anyways, we did not got much from that game, since it was really short scene but a good one. Since the reunion of the famous trio and more stars is coming to the TV on New Year's Eve, I thought it would be a great idea to review the famous chess game from the Harry Potter series. If you are a huge Harry Potter fan, you must have remembered this scene. In the first movie, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, there's actually two chess scenes. Ron's chess set depicted in the film is a replica of the 12th century Lewis Chessmen. [ citation needed]

The game of chess actually plays a significant role in the Harry Potter books and movies, right from the very beginning. Several characters are known to play wizard’s chess, including Gryffindor students Seamus Finnigan and Percy Weasley. Ron Weasley is also seen to be playing a game of wizard’s chess on several different occasions – he even beats Harry a few times! After the Philosopher's Stone was destroyed, the undamaged pieces of the chessboard were stored in the Room of Hidden Things. [5] [6] Players [ ] Aside from the pieces moving hands-free and clobbering each other with chairs, the fictional game looks a lot like regular chess and aficionados will recognise the chessmen as the medieval, and appropriately mysterious, Isle of Lewis pieces. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone . Directed by Chris Columbus. Burbank: Warner Bros. Pictures, 2001. Want to give a magical touch to the game of chess? The Harry Potter Wizard chess set will suit you perfectly. Just like Harry and Ron played Wizard’s chess in the Sorcerer’s Stone, you will be able to play the classic board game using detailed miniature replicas of the original life-size figures from the movie. There are three different companies that make these Harry Potter Wizard Chess sets. Let’s take a look at how each of these sets: Harry Potter Wizard Chess Set by Mattel

Wizard's Chess as seen in the GBA version of the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone We believe that The Isle of Lewis Chess Set (Wizard’s Edition) is the closest Harry Potter fans can get to a game of Wizard’s Chess – and, with its elegant presentation box, it makes a magical gift to the Potterhead in your life.

Wikipedia: The Free Encyclopedia, s.v. "Chess." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess (accessed on January 30, 2009). This themed Harry Potter Wizard Chess Set is manufactured by The Noble Collection under license from Warner Brothers which means you get an exact replica of the original chess set from the Sorcerer’s Stone movie. A lot of thought actually went into this larger than life wizard’s chess scene, and there was a lot of work going into it behind the scenes (apart from the construction of those giant pieces!) International Master Jeremy Silman was the mind behind the chess scene in the Harry Potter movie, and he is the one who designed the chess position we see on the screen and all of its subsequent moves. Unfortunately for chess enthusiasts, a lot of his moves were cut from the final version of the movie, which resulted in moves that didn’t seem to make much sense to those of us who are familiar with the rules of chess. The chess pieces are very well made and look exactly like the wizard chessmen from the movie. The plastic used to manufacture the pieces is of good quality and the pieces hold together very well. Just like the Harry Potter Wizard Chess sets from Mattel and The Noble Collection, the board for this one is made out of cardboard and folds into four parts. This is the biggest letdown for an otherwise very impressive looking chess set. The paired down versions of the chess scenes were certainly still dramatic ad enjoyable for people who are less familiar with the rules of chess. Since this was primarily a children’s movie, we can forgive the producers for not wanting to spend valuable screen time on a complex, metaphorical chess game that would likely go over the heads of the majority of their audience members. In the end, it was an entertaining scene, and now that we’ve explained the full context of the position, maybe we can all enjoy the scene a bit more. The set is basically a toy so you can’t really expect it to provide a professional gameplay experience. It does a great job of bringing the Sorcerer’s Stone movie chess scene to life with its beautifully designed chessmen that look exactly like the ones in the movie. Some of the pieces are a little top heavy due to the added weight of the weapons the pieces are carrying. Other than that, this is the perfect chess set to combine your love for Harry Potter and chess into one. If you are like me, you probably grew up reading (and loving) the Harry Potter books. More importantly, if you are like me and also developed a love for playing chess along the way, investing in a well-made Harry Potter movie themed chess set just makes sense.
