About this deal

I haven't heard a first pressing so I can't compare but to my ears this sounds as good as it can get. This album was originally sold through Starbucks' Hear Music brand in an exclusive six-week deal that ended on July 26, 2005. Ballard provided the rough tracks, playing the guitars, keyboards, and programming drum machines, and Morissette played harmonica.

Alanis Morissette – Jagged Little Pill (1995, Vinyl) - Discogs

Alanis has lived in my head for the past two decades as the artful embodiment of a powerful, unruly, inspiringly angry woman. She was a statement of possibility for my 12-year-old self, and for many other girls and women at the time. It addresses themes about depression and anorexia as it sees Morissette trying to reassure a friend who's having a rough time. This submission incorporates versions stickered "25th ANNIVERSARY", the sticker being the only difference.I had long ago made it through puberty (although my simmering rage at feminine expectation continued). I'm not especially sensitive to inner groove distortion, but this probably would've been a good contender for a 2LP set.

At the 1996 Grammy Awards, she won four awards: Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, Best Rock Song (both for " You Oughta Know"), Best Rock Album and Album of the Year; Morissette consequently tied with Carole King and Bonnie Raitt for the record of most Grammys won by a woman at a single ceremony, at the time. When the electric guitar picked up and she wailed her, “ You, you, you oughta know-ohh,” I cringed a little bit. The artwork of the acoustic version is similar to the original version, but is sepia-tinted instead. The video was nominated for six MTV Video Music Awards in 1996 winning three including " Best Female Video".The two wrote and recorded Morissette's first internationally released album, Jagged Little Pill, and by the spring of 1995, she had signed a deal with Maverick Records. Note: "You Oughta Know" (Jimmy the Saint Blend) / "Your House (a cappella)" only appears as a hidden track on the CD release and does not appear on the original 1995 vinyl release.

Rolling Stone ranked Jagged Little Pill at number 69 on its 2020 list of " The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". When “Perfect,” a plain, earnest song about the pressure to be “good enough,” came on, I had a realization: Jagged Little Pill was “Baby Shark” for mid-’90s angsty tween girls. The lyrics talk about "intellectual intercourse" and a mental connection with another angry, frustrated, frightened, uncomfortable soul. If I was honest, though, the bing-bing-bing of the electric guitar, the wobbly affectation of her voice, and the feeble lyrics (“Enough about me, let’s talk about you for a minute/Enough about you, let’s talk about life for a while”) had planted a seed of doubt. In November 2013, it was revealed that a theatre adaption of Jagged Little Pill was being adapted for the stage [90] with Tom Kitt attached to arrange the orchestrations. The video Jagged Little Pill, Live, which was co-directed by Morissette and chronicled the bulk of her tour, won a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Music Video, Long Form. The experimentation resulted in an alternative rock album that takes influence from post-grunge and pop rock, and features guitars, keyboards, drum machines, and harmonica. American singer Katy Perry cites Jagged Little Pill as a significant musical inspiration, and opted to work with Morissette's frequent collaborator Ballard as a result. But holy fuck did they speak to my sense of not being nearly good enough—according to boys, according to Seventeen, according to MTV spring break specials.

But, as I had feared, packing six songs on each side of this single LP showed degrading sound quality past the halfway point on each side. The tour was scheduled to begin in 2020 for the album's 25th anniversary, but was postponed to summer 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and stretched until 2023. The album has been re-released twice: on October 30, 2015, in a 2-disc deluxe edition and a 4-disc collector's edition commemorating its 20th anniversary; and on June 26, 2020, in a 25th anniversary deluxe edition.
