Photograph: Barry Joule From left: Roald Dahl, Francis Bacon and Barry Joule during a weekend in 1982 at Dahl's home in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. Roald Dahl, most famous for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, created loads of publications, and a few of them were not 100s of pages long. The Magic Finger will be released online for free to schools and families across the UK and beyond from Spring 2024. Despite his secret plans and clever tricks, what the boastful crocodile doesn’t know is that the brave jungle animals have plans of their own for him!

The Enormous Crocodile resides in “the largest brownest muddiest river in Africa” as well as has an insatiable cravings for young kids. Quentin Blake’s first book,Patrick, was published in 1968 and was followed by classics such asMister Magnolia,All Join In,andClown. Our daughter wanted to know what would happen next and really enjoyed the story of the wicked crocodile on the hunt to eat up small children. Salman Rushdie, the Booker prize-winning novelist, is among many who have condemned such censorship as “absurd”, while Puffin has been reportedly inundated with complaints from the public. When one of our favourite charities reopened in September 2022, for the first time following the pandemic, I scooped up eleven of his paperbacks. It’s definitely not my favorite of his that I’ve read so far, but it was still funny and the pictures were enjoyable.

His stories also brought him three Edgar Awards: in 1954, for the collection Someone Like You; in 1959, for the story "The Landlady"; and in 1980, for the episode of Tales of the Unexpected based on "Skin". After leaving the river he encounters a number of other animals whom he treats with contempt or tries to eat. He said that Dahl was “banging his fist down so hard all the glasses shook and wine spilled” and Bacon thumped his wine glass down with such force that “I thought he would break it”.

It's the beginning of the year and somehow I find this the right time for some of Roald Dahl's stories.

We stopped as the crocodile was making his way to the village where he hoped to eat several children. Make a crocodile that has a snapping jaw by using a split pin to fix the moving jaw pieces together. My 11-year-old is positively smitten with his work at the moment, and she and I gathered under the covers last night, leaving the horrors of the world news behind us as we embraced, instead, this “horrid hoggish croc” who has a penchant for eating children. The enormous crocodile decides to have a human child for lunch and sets out for the village to pull tricks on the children so he can catch one to eat.He develops a series of ‘secret plans and clever tricks’ to deceive the children so he can snatch them up, but the other animals in the jungle won’t stand for his shenanigans. Created to align with Key Stage 1 and 2 learning objectives, our free lesson plan are designed to add a touch of Roald Dahl magic to the curriculum, from English, Maths and STEM to Art, PSHE and Geography. The Enormous Crocodile' (1978) - classic but perhaps lesser known book by Roald Dahl, with the customary brilliant illustrations by Quentin Blake. Only the other jungle creatures can foil his secret plans and clever tricks, but they’re going to have to find a large amount of courage to stop this greedy brute. When nobody is looking, however, the crocodile picks up a bunch of beautiful coloured flowers with his front legs, and then he arranges it on top of one of the tables in the area.

After being rejected by his fellow crocodile, Enormous Crocodile tells other animals in the forest of his plan to eat children. This picture book edition has a beautiful full-color interior and large trim to feature Quentin Blake’s iconic art. The Enormous Crocodile loves to eat plump, juicy little child, and he wants to eat as many as he can. Eventually, though, he is shot into space and is "incinerated like a sausage," killing him in the process. One of Roald Dahl’s best-known characters was the Enormous Crocodile, “a horrid greedy grumptious brute” who “wants to eat something juicy and delicious”.The crocodiles use words like ‘tough’, ‘chewy’, ‘nasty’, ‘bitter’, ‘juicy’ and ‘yummy’ to describe how children taste.
