About this deal

Sunny Stories was renamed Enid Blyton's Sunny Stories in January 1937, and served as a vehicle for the serialisation of Blyton's books. Her first Naughty Amelia Jane story, about an anti-heroine based on a doll owned by her daughter Gillian, [61] was published in the magazine. [1] Blyton stopped contributing in 1952, and it closed down the following year, shortly before the appearance of the new fortnightly Enid Blyton Magazine written entirely by Blyton. [62] The first edition appeared on 18 March 1953, [63] and the magazine ran until September 1959. [7] In German Language the series was named "Hanni & Nanni" and received ample changes in names, places and characteristics resembling more to the German taste. Up to date 39 books have been published, with only episodes 1-4, 11 and 13 basing on Blyton's originals, Parts 19 and 20 are adapted from Pamela Cox' editions Third Form at St. Clare's and Sixth Form at St. Clare’s. Cox's third book Kitty at St Clare’s has not yet been adapted. Far more serious to my mind are occasional plot lapses that create an impossible situation. There is a serious lapse in the action chapters towards the end of "Five on a Treasure Island" which I must admit rather spoils the story for me, as it would not be easy to fix without upsetting other aspects of the story. I am not sure whether I should describe it here and maybe spoil the story for others, but no-one else has ever mentioned it to my knowledge. In book two, it's the start of the Easter Term and the twins are looking forward to meeting all their friends at St Clare's once more. Blyton, Enid (November 1991), The Twins at St Clare's: The First Three Books Complete and Unabridged, Dean, ISBN 0-603-55063-0 The Second Form at St. Clares is the fourth novel in the St. Clare's series of children's school stories by Enid Blyton. The series is about the boarding school adventures of twin girls Patricia and Isabel O'Sullivan. Their form mistress is now Miss Jenks and they no longer have to bear the severeness of the first form mistress, Miss Roberts – who is extremely sarcastic and firm but can be kind when she feels like to, a bit like Mam'zelle, the French teacher that used to teach and is still teaching the girls. Bluemel, Kristin (2009), Intermodernism: Literary Culture in Mid-twentieth-century Britain, Edinburgh University Press, ISBN 978-0-7486-3509-2 At term's end, Anna is told she can now go up to the Third Form, who have heard about her success as head girl and want her to return to their year. Elsie is also granted passage into the Third Form after she apologises to Anna and Carlotta for trying to ruin the birthday party, but is told that she is on her last chance and that she must drop her malicious and spiteful attitude if she wants to stay there, and that one mistake will see her expelled from the school.I generally take a pretty dim view of meddling with Enid Blyton's texts for reasons of political correctness or just to "update" details in stories which are of a certain period anyway, regardless - but additions to resolve plot holes of this sort are one kind of alteration I could probably look favourably upon - preferably with a note somewhere in the book saying that that had been done. Blyton's The Faraway Tree series of books has also been adapted to television and film. On 29 September 1997 the BBC began broadcasting an animated series called The Enchanted Lands, based on the series. [169] It was announced in October 2014 that a deal had been signed with publishers Hachette for "The Faraway Tree" series to be adapted into a live-action film by director Sam Mendes' production company. Marlene Johnson, head of children's books at Hachette, said: "Enid Blyton was a passionate advocate of children's storytelling, and The Magic Faraway Tree is a fantastic example of her creative imagination." To her enormous annoyance nobody seemed to notice it. As a matter of fact, they took so little notice of her at all that if she had suddenly grown a moustache and worn riding-boots they wouldn't have bothered. Who wanted to pay any attention to Gwen? She had never done anything to make herself liked or trusted, so the best thing to do was to ignore her. In 2020, Malory Towers was adapted as a 13 part TV series for the BBC. It is made partly in Toronto and partly in the UK in association with Canada's Family Channel. The series went to air in the UK from April 2020 and has been renewed for three more series. In book six, Pat breaks her arm and misses the first weeks of term. Will Pat be upset when new girl Amanda becomes Isabel's new best friend? REVIEW OF HANNI UND NANNI SIND IMMER DAGEGEN (AND ACTUALLY THE ENTIRE ST. In July 1923, Blyton published Real Fairies, a collection of thirty-three poems written especially for the book with the exception of "Pretending", which had appeared earlier in Punch magazine. [16] The following year, she published The Enid Blyton Book of Fairies, illustrated by Horace J. Knowles, [17] and in 1926 the Book of Brownies. [18] Several books of plays appeared in 1927, including A Book of Little Plays and The Play's the Thing with the illustrator Alfred Bestall. [19] A German audio drama named Hanni & Nanni, [1] produced by EUROPA. Up to 2019, 65 episodes have been published, the storyline differs from the books, especially the later episodes. Mangan, Lucy (22 December 2005). "The Famous Five– in their own words". The Guardian . Retrieved 22 January 2014.There is one quite distasteful piece towards the end of the book though, which even as a kid had me quite indignant. One girl, Sheila, is disliked by the rest of the first form for putting on 'airs and graces'—fair enough. But one day she commits the cardinal sin of saying 'You didn't ought to...' and Janet explodes. 'Haven't you learnt by now that decent people don't say "Didn't ought to"!...you talk like the daughter of the dustman!' I shut my eyes for a few minutes, with my portable typewriter on my knee– I make my mind a blank and wait– and then, as clearly as I would see real children, my characters stand before me in my mind's eye... The first sentence comes straight into my mind, I don't have to think of it– I don't have to think of anything. [68]

When I was little and read the school series I had read the full Malory towers series before I read any St Clares - and I always liked the fact that although (inevitably) the situations were, in some ways, similar the books were completely different! I guess this is also reflected in the settings Enid chose for the books. Her twin is disgusted to find that she has done this and refuses to help. Isabel therefore concocts a plan in which she will pretend to be Pat and do Pat's share of the chores as well.
