About this deal

Seed & Bean was founded in 2005 with ethics at its core; the focus of always using organic ingredients, small-scale suppliers and being brave and wild with flavours: Chocolate with a Wild Side. When it comes to chocolate, we really are chocolate artisans.

Chop Seed and Bean chocolate into fine little pieces. Pour into bowl. Stir into the bowl with a wooden spoon. Without our customers support we can’t keep creating incredible flavours. This is why we are on the hunt for four new chocolate tasters. A once in a lifetime opportunity to help us create more flavours to enhance our current range, and you’ll get your mitts on a lifetime supply of chocolate! Dark chocolate – the more intense, and some would say more sophisticated cousin of mainstream milk chocolate – is worth getting right. It may not be everyone’s choice of sweet treat, but if you’re ready to go to the dark side, it pays to shop around for the best dark chocolate you can find. This is no time for nipping to the corner shop. While great dark chocolate is characterful, smooth and rich, poorly made versions can be unpleasantly bitter, waxy or grainy and leave you feeling short-changed from your chocolate hit.The United Kingdom is 1 of the main chocolate markets in Europe. Growing health awareness is changing the UK chocolate market, as sugar-free and vegan chocolate options are becoming increasingly available to consumers. The British market is characterised by an increasingly strong focus on ethical consumption. Impact of Brexit on the UK chocolate market felt in export figures Another unique neurotransmitter found in chocolate is phenylethylamine also known as chocolate amphetamine that modulates the blood sugar levels as well as blood pressure levels that lead to the feeling of alertness, awareness, and excitement. Phenylethylamine increases the pulse rate drastically therefore, it is also known as a love drug. It produces the feelings to when someone is in love, therefore, chocolate is shared as a symbol of commitment and love. When I first met with Sainsbury’s all those years ago, I sold them the dream of our amazing organic chocolate with incredible unique flavours. Fast forward to the middle of a global pandemic (not the easiest time to be a new brand in a supermarket I must admit), we got the listing I had dreamt of.

In 2021, all food and drink exports to EU decreased, -18.5% compared to 2019 and -12% compared to 2020. Specifically, in the case of chocolate, it was observed that exports of British chocolate were down 18.5% in the first half of 2021 in relation to 2019. Chocolate imports from EU countries to the United Kingdom have also been affected, and it is expected that they will deteriorate further in 2022 after the UK’s full customs procedures are in place. Additionally, EU re-exports of cocoa beans to the UK will likely fall due to the decline in chocolate manufacturing in the UK and the trade barriers caused by Brexit.

When it comes to the word ‘Fairtrade’ it can be a minefield of information which although is readily available to everyone, it can be a little hard to decipher and understand when you really delve into the specifics. In this article I want to help you understand what Fairtrade really means, how we can recognise if a brand is Fairtrade and what it means for them if they are. In response to this situation, UK companies are likely to consider sourcing directly from origin or exporting more to non-EU markets. This provides an opportunity for cocoa suppliers from producing countries to establish direct relations with UK-based buyers, especially regarding sustainable, ethical or high-quality cocoa. Growing and diverse market for healthier chocolate options in the United Kingdom

The UK processing and grinding industry is the fifth-largest in Europe. During 2020-2021, the UK processed around 80 thousand tonnes of cocoa beans. This is far below countries such as the Netherlands ( 610 thousand tonnes), the USA (390 thousand tonnes), Brazil (240 thousand tonnes), Indonesia (490 thousand tonnes) and Ivory Coast (620 thousand tonnes). Forastero is the predominant cocoa variety. It is mainly cultivated in Africa, but also in Central and South America. It accounts for around 80% of global cocoa production. Forastero grows faster and gives a higher yield than other cocoa varieties. The beans have a strong, earthy flavour. Generally, bulk cocoa beans come from Forastero trees. Well-known Forastero subspecies are Amelonado and Nacional. Nacional trees in Ecuador produce fine flavour cocoa. The brain needs around 20 percent of the oxygen taken up by the lungs that explain the brain being vulnerable to radical damage. This damage occurs more at a cellular level inside the brain and causes aging of the brain cells, thus, eating chocolate can help in neutralizing the radical damage as it consists of antioxidant properties and helps in the proper functioning of the brain as well as boosting memory, learning, and feeling of euphoria. Just as physical health helps our body to stay strong and smart, mental health also helps our body to increase productivity and to control the stresses of life. Therefore, it is really important not to avoid mental and emotional issues as positive mental health not only provides a sense of contentment but also makes a person flexible enough to learn new skills, maintain perfect relationships, and be creative and enjoy life. This study was carried out on behalf of CBI by Gustavo Ferro and Lisanne Groothuis from ProFound – Advisers In Development.
