About this deal

Price is the other issue: these are more expensive batteries than much of the competition. If you need the extra power, the extra outlay is worth it; if not, a set of lower-capacity batteries may do the job for you.

This kind of emits heat, and therefore you can hear the hiss from the built-in fan when charging. The charging current is stated at 1.5-10 amps, while ReCyko Pro works with 2 amps charging current. Turn off all components that are not needed and keep the camera in standby or sleep mode rather than turning the camera on and off periodically. Fact: New generation rechargeable batteries are built with a very low self-discharge rate, meaning they can stay up to 80% charged after 12 months when left idle. It turned out to be fine. The charger has its own algorithm according to GP, which monitors the charging, and the charging curve should be steeper at the beginning and then flatter than usual (we have not been able to verify this). GP Batteries has launched the world’s fastest NiMH battery charger, Recyko Charge 10. The charger can simultaneously recharge up to four Charge 10 AA batteries in 10 minutes, which is up to three times faster than other best-performing chargers on the market.Charge 10 sports an ultra-compact design which is substantially smaller than other fast chargers due to its built-in power adapter, making it easy to carry on the go. All the functionalities are seamlessly integrated, from charging lights to the charging modes button – with an easy view of, and access to, the rechargeable batteries. While most chargers only do one thing, ReCyko Pro can also recondition (refresh) batteries that have lost a lot of capacity after many charging cycles. In that case the battery is first completely discharged, and after that a charging process starts, which can last three to four days.

It’s common to see NiMH rechargeable batteries that have a total life of around 500 charge cycles. That’s good, as one battery replaces 500 alkaline batteries; but the GP ReCyko Pro 2000mAh AA go further. These batteries have a lifetime of 1500 cycles: that’s more than double the GP ReCyko Charge 10 (when slow-charged). Not only that, but the GP ReCyko Pro 2000mAh AA can hold 70% of a charge after five years. In other words, you can charge them today, store them in a cupboard and have them ready for action when you need them. Capacity is rated at just 1700mAh, although we found that they managed 2045mAh when slow charged, a chunk above that rated capacity. On a fast charge, power was 1769mAh. One of the reasons that rechargeable batteries are so environmentally friendly is because of the ability to reuse them. The GP ReCyko Pro 2000mAh AAs can be charged 1500 times over their life, which is considerably higher than most rechargeable batteries. Add in their high capacity and there isn’t a lot to complain about here, bar the relatively high price. Design and Charges With a starting voltage of 1.4V, these batteries were above the lower limit of 1.2V for rechargeable batteries. Capacity is decent. Rated at 2000mAh, we found that these batteries managed an initial result of 2218mAh, and that didn’t change over the full 50 cycles that we put the batteries through. That’s enough power to take on the most powerful jobs, although if you really need more power, the Ansmann Digital AA HR6 2850mAh may be better.Based on an internal test by GP of the average percentage of battery capacity charged after a 10-minute charge as of May 2021. Calculated from 5 simultaneous charges of 4pcs of new Charge 10 1700mAh AA batteries to 90%+ of capacity at 20°C, followed by battery discharge according to IEC 61951-2. It used to be that rechargeable batteries suffered from high battery drain, losing a considerable amount of power while sat idle, which made them unsuitable for many jobs. For example, in remote controls, rechargeable batteries would run out of power at more regular intervals than standard disposable batteries, making them an annoying choice. However, improvements in technology now mean that there are rechargeables that can compete with alkaline models for longevity. To see how well the GP Recyko Charge 10 AA batteries worked, I used an Ansmann Energy XC3000 to measure capacity and voltage. Rechargeable batteries such as these should have a nominal starting voltage of 1.2V, although I measured these at a higher 1.35V, which is good.

Durability is also excellent, with the batteries rated to last for 1000 charges, around double that of standard rechargeable batteries. These will hold 60% of their charge over a year, which is a slightly bigger drop than much of the competition, so you’re better charging the Ansmann Digital AA HR6 2850mAh and using them fresh. Each battery is rated at 1700mAh, and can be charged using the fast or Eco options. With fast charging, 10 minutes is all you need to get to 90% capacity; on Eco mode, charging takes longer, but you can get to the full capacity. Although the charger is nominally for the Charge 10 batteries, it’s also capable of charging any AA or AAA NiMH rechargeables, so you can use it with any current (or future) rechargeable units you buy.

With now decades of experience from innovating rechargeable batteries, what makes our innovation stand out is our team’s deep technical knowledge, together with a thorough understanding of actual use cases and user behaviour. It’s important to not only grasp the technical fundamentals but to keep an open mind on new developments in the industry and in consumers’ lives. We have been working with different engineering teams for mechanical, electrical and software development, thus enabling us to design a highly complex multi-disciplinary product,” says Michael Lam.If the device is not going to be used for a long period of time, we recommend removing all used batteries from the electrical device and always replace used batteries with new batteries of the same size and type. Make sure to switch off the device after the batteries are exhausted or find power down during use and replace them with new rechargeable ones. The product name, Ansmann Digital AA HR6 2850mAh, tells you all you need to know. These are super-high-capacity AA rechargeable batteries with a massive rated 2850mAh capacity. We can safely say that this is correct, and in our tests, the Ansmann Digital AA HR6 2850mAh batteries delivered a huge capacity of 2911mAh, with little fluctuation over the entire 50 cycles.
