Ethan Wate: In the genre of YA, we don't see much of male POVs, and I am so glad that this one goes against the typical and has Ethan as our main character. I, personally, enjoy male POVs more than that of a females for some reason. And Ethan is no expectation! I absolutely adore him -his manners, his curiosity, his intelligence, etc. In my opinion, he's one of the best voices in YA. He's also definitely swoon-worthy. This graphic sensibility would later be distilled and codified in their incomparable 3-volume Beauté (re-teamed with Hubert) where the line is crystal clear and often replaced by clean color degradations: Access-restricted-item true Addeddate 2021-09-02 14:13:30 Associated-names Stohl, Margaret Boxid IA40226714 Camera USB PTP Class Camera Collection_set printdisabled External-identifier

Ohmygoshyes. Because of my one, true love: Wesley Jefferson Lincoln. He carried this book on his scrawny shoulders. A vegetarian? Are you insane? That's worse than bein' a quarter demon! I was honestly only reading for the parts where he was in. The darkness that surrounds us cannot hurt us. It is the darkness in your own heart you should fear. I love all the food mentions though. I love food, and I love cooking. Many of these dishes I never even heard of. Now I want to start looking them up and try out a few new dishes. I'm from up north so thats probably part of the reason I never heard of some of these dishes. Sneider, Jeff (18 June 2015). "Benjamin Walker to Star in Dark Comedy 'Beautiful Darkness' (Exclusive)". TheWrap . Retrieved 8 September 2018.Harrison, Jessica (October 16, 2010). " 'Beautiful Darkness' authors Garcia, Stohl in tune with complexities of teenage life". Deseret News. Liv was an interesting character. Not one to follow the prime directive or Marian’s annoying non-interference policy, Liv was a great resource of information for Ethan. She also provided a sexy, British accented, secondary love interest for Ethan as well. Yes, the love triangle has made an appearance. The best surprise was Ridley. I’ll just leave it as that so as not to spoil the story. Special mention goes to Lucille Ball, the Caster cat. But all the same, I did enjoy Beautiful Darkness. I was entranced while reading. It held me rapt with its grim and lushly vibrant sense of itself. So instead of justifying why a person should enjoy Vehlmann and Kerascoët’s book, I simply talk about why I did. At least for now, while I fail to understand it. In contrast to these characters, though, the setting of the book more often than not does match the solemnity of the situations. In fact, the frequent reminder that the book takes place in and around the dead body of a young girl is perhaps one of the most difficult aspects of the narrative to cope with. There lays with the girl a certain amount of subtext and clues as to how she got there, but the decomposition of the body remains an important recurring element to the story that is only exacerbated as the story continues. So while the characters themselves seem to sort of revel in the magic of their situation and strikingly duplicitous behavior that governs their society, Kerascoet never shies away from reminding us just what the book implicitly revolves around. These characters have no problem with the dead body of a girl in the woods, but it is hard for the reader not to have quite a few problems with it as time goes on. And as her seventeenth birthday approaches Lena and Ethan face even greater danger. A Caster and a Mortal can never truly be together.

Dark love, It’s a night of darkness, a song of death. Wolves vent their loneliness. The eternal one awakens, Darkness shrouds his pale form, a timeless desire. His midnight hair casades to his shoulders. Full pale pink lips part slightly to taste the soul streaming from the pale flesh beneath him. Now a night of a new life, I rise. This book was definitely more fast-paced than the first and filled with unexpected plot twists and a cliffhanger ending that will leave you dying for more! The seeds of destruction have already been sown, though, and Aurora’s best efforts can’t save the dissolution of her pixie society, which unfolds in bloody and vicious ways. It almost seems foretold, though — their former home is, in fact, the body of a girl once living, now dead, collapsed on the forest floor, her flesh decaying and becoming part of the nature she now permanently rests in. One of the cool things about this book is that even though it's a fantasy/paranormal book, there was a great depiction of grief and guilt in this book. Grief is a topic that's often skimmed over in books, but the authors chose to dive deep into this topic and accurately portray how death effects the living. I really appreciate that. Beautiful Darkness is one word is intense. So much more happens to our beloved, Ethan and Lena. Beautiful Creatures was just the tip of the iceberg.... All that Caster information is well below the surface and I have a suspicion that Beautiful Darkness didn't even reveal it all. Guess what? We have a love triangle! Surprise, surprise. I don't count John Breed as a part of any love interest (he's mine!!!!) so let's say that triangle consist of Lena, Ethan and someone else. You'll have to read the book to find out. Yes, I'm that evil. Though, in the end, it didn't feel like there was some sort of a love triangle at all.
