About this deal

Too bad I'm no longer in the market for such items though, or I would probably be all over this cooler. The included TL-C12CW-S ARGB fans are a white variant of the TL-C12C-S, come with white frames, frosty impellers, and ARGB illumination.

I don’t test OCCT without power limits, because attempting to do so results in CPU package power consumption jumping to over 270W and instantly throttling with even the best AIO coolers. Its brown exterior and black ink are far from flashy, but what’s here is all about utility, and as we’ll see soon in testing, that goes deepter than just the packaging. In these lower wattage tests, the Peerless Assassin once again lives up to its name, outperforming it’s nearest rival by six degrees C when fans ran at the default fan curve, and a whopping 12 degrees C when set to 50% fan speeds.

This cooler installation is very similar to Noctua's typical installation, which is one of the easier installation setups. I have the Peerless Assassin SE120 with fairly tall memory and you can easily mount the fan a little higher so it sits above the memory. This is because it runs at less than 50% fan speeds in this test using the motherboard’s default fan curve. It stands head and shoulders above its competitors, including the highly regarded Deep Rock Pro and Noctua coolers. My only nits are with the fan splitter cable, its black not white and the fan brackets are silver not white. Thermalright also did away with the decorative top-plate for the two fin-stacks, lowering the Z-height of the cooler to 155 mm, compared to 157 mm on the original. This new socket marks a big departure for AMD — the company is moving from its long-lived Pin Grid Array (PGA) AM4 sockets to a Land Grid Array (LGA) AM5 layout.
