About this deal

In case you don't understand, this is the scene after Darcy has found out she's in love with Trevor. She rushed to tell Brenna and Jude, and before she starts, Brenna, as it is polite and right , asks Jude about her childbirth classes. Which of course does not sit well with Princess, no, Queen Darcy, and she interrupts Jude to make sure the attention's on her - and for what? To tell them she's in love! Like there hasn't been any other woman who's been in the same position in the whole world! That's how inconsiderate she really is! All in all, a decent ending to the series and a good tale, just not great for me. You may feel differently, who knows? There's one thing you need to know about me: I’ve never listened to a song by Rush all the way through. Really. If Alvin and the Chipmunks were re-imagined as opera singers, the lead singer could be bass. I can't take them seriously.

Interestingly, Roberts chose to make Trevor a near cookie-cutter image of Darcy rather than a complement to her. He's materialistic and self-interested as well, and as confident as she is in his ability (and possibly even right) to have the things he wants. When they meet, naturally sparks fly. Roberts' skill comes through in making us care about this relationship even though it looks, on the surface, like a cynical match of convenience—Trevor gets a beautiful woman, Darcy gets everything that money can buy. Fortunately, things aren't that simple. Pollard is portrayed as a haughty and inexperienced Blue Blood who owes his captaincy to nepotism when in reality Pollard had already served as a Mate on the Essex itself for several years and was justly deserving of his promotion. Something triggered in one whale, a monster 85 foot creature, who instead of fleeing from these puny humans turned around and crashed into them. ”Instead of acting as a whale was supposed to---as a creature ‘never before suspected of premeditated violence, and proverbial for its inoffensiveness’---this big bull had been possessed by what Chase finally took to be a very human concern for the other whales.” The Essex disaster is not a tale of adventure. It is a tragedy that happens to be one of the greatest true stories ever told."

About BookQuoters

Melville embroidered the real story, sending Captain Ahab's ship to the bottom after it was rammed by a giant white whale that, according to Ahab, exhibited a peculiarly human maliciousness and guile. That sinking Animals Not to Scale: The titular sperm whale turns out to be a 100 ft (30 meters) bull. That is, it is almost as long as your average blue whale. The largest known sperm whales measured up to 65.5 ft (20 meters). Accounts of 100-ft sperm whales were not unheard of, but no such beast has ever been scientifically verified. No Party Like a Donner Party: The Essex's survivors eventually have to resort to cannibalism, which haunts Thomas for decades. No, wait. There're four things you need to know about me: I don’t like to work. At all. I'd go so far as to assert that I am entirely abnormal in my contempt for it. A sort of cynical pragmatism colors my approach to adult life and all its attendant cares. I think of myself as seeking out a sort of hedonistic equilibrium whereby I maximize the amount of money I earn while doing the least amount of work. And to that end, I am happy to report, I have been largely successful.

The whales and whalemen who fired Herman Melville's imagination still have the power to inspire, and they are behind this The nearest islands, the Marquesas, were more than 1,000 miles downwind, but reputedly home to savages with a taste for human flesh. The familiar coast of South America, however, was over 2,000 miles to the east, and upwind the horribly incompetent captain ends up having his 17-year-old cousin shot and eaten (awkward homecoming, that: "Hey Nancy, so the good news is I'm alive!" -"Uhm, where's my teenage son that I entrusted specifically to your care?" -"Yeah well, you know how they say the dead live on inside us...?"); had no lure for him. The quest propelled him through Ahab's seas, to Nuku Hiva, the Philippines, Tonga and the southern end of Indonesia. Each of the four places gets a chapter, though they are uneven in drama

It is appalling. And it also is daunting to conceive how these men went farther and farther and farther for the liquid "gold". To the point where they had no idea of the islands or lands around them at all. Resulting in not having the facts, but believing the hype- and thus going 3000 plus miles out of their way for "help". It's a lifestyle that meant the men were home for 3 months out of 3 years gone. And that many women were happy about the fact, as well.
