About this deal

Our problem was that it wasn’t super accurate—certainly not as much as our the American Weigh LB3000 pocket scale—and it costs almost twice as much. We were glad to see the scales were fully charged on arrival, meaning we could use them straight away.

The few that you may struggle with are the "On Balance CD Scale" or the "On Balance KB-2000 Kitchen Scale" these also feature a 3-year manufacturer warranty honoured by On Balance. And it’s one of the very few scales in our test group that supports calibration (though you need to have a 5 kg lab weight or the equivalent). For our 2018 update, Tyler Wells Lynch rounded up all the scales we’ve missed over the years, testing nine new ones in addition to our four previous picks. This is what you want if you’re brewing coffee, for example, where espresso or single-serving pour-over brews often require precise measurements to the decimal. It was important for us to pick a winner with both a reasonable wait time before the auto shutoff and the ability to remember the weight of whatever is on the scale when it's turned back on.That extra precision comes at a cost to size and capacity, however, and most people don’t need it, since measuring spoons are accurate enough for baking. It didn’t register the weight until we’d added three grams, so not ideal for ingredients such as yeast. The dial surrounds a large, bright and clear digital display housed in a raised knob on the bottom right of the scale, making it easy to read.

Please note that we are not IOSS registered due to the nature of our products (alcoholic beverages). It gets your baking down to a science, offering precision that rivals the best measuring cups and spoons.Sustainability: we asked what the scales were made from, looked at how they were packaged, and at their power method. Some of the digital kitchen scales we looked at here will measure dry ingredients only, but all come with the ability to go back to zero after a bowl or plate is placed on top. It has the ideal capacity for home and pro use: It’s capable of accurately weighing ingredients between 1 gram and 5 kilograms (or about 11 pounds). One could weigh raw meat directly on the scale, then remove the platform to hand-wash for guaranteed sanitation. The display was reasonably responsive but didn’t register dry or wet ingredients until 4g/4ml and didn’t always display each additional gram, even when added slowly, making precise measurement tricky.
