About this deal

Cool Experiments on Static Electricity by Baby Professor. Speedy Publishing, 2017. A good book for parents to work through with younger children. Ages 6–9.

Use fabric softeners, dryer sheets, or dryer balls. Fabric softeners that are used in the rinse cycle of the washer lubricate fabrics with chemicals that make them feel silkier and create less friction to the touch. Dryer sheets emit the same substances, activated by the heat of the dryer, to coat the surfaces of the fabrics. Dryer sheets are more effective than fabric softeners in reducing static cling, because they work where the electrostatic problems are created. These non-woven fabric sheets are coated with a liquid surfactant that is activated by heat. Reusable dryer balls are also a great option to reduce static cling in clothing. Photo: Anti-static plastic = fantastic! Here's one way that chemical additives can make plastics anti-static. In this case, the additive is made of polar molecules (ones with uneven electric charge, so they have positive and negative ends). 1) These molecules (shown here in red) migrate to the surface of the plastic with their negative ends pointing out. 2) Water in the atmosphere (H 2O, shown in blue) also has polar molecules, whose positive ends are attracted to the negative ends of the additive. 3) The moisture forms a thin, electrically conducting film that acts as an anti-static coating.Run a wire clothes hanger or piece of aluminum foil between the clinging areas. The metal helps discharge the electricity, thereby removing the static. The 303 Detailer Spray is the ideal anti-static car spray for more sensitive surfaces such as chrome, clear coat, fiberglass, glass, paint, and stainless steel. It is specially formulated without solvent-based silicone oils that could harm the finish or clear coat of delicate surfaces. So, if you have a collector’s vehicle, this product should be perfect for you. However, the product is great for use on regular plastic and metal too. In some cases, the SIA allows individuals to use their licences to satisfy the criteria for related licensable activities. by Randy Dotinga. Wired, June 8, 2006. Metal playground slides can generate enough static electricity to damage cochlear implants in deaf children; antistatic coatings seem to be the answer. The Rebel Rubber and Vinyl is more than just another anti-static spray. Not only does it repel dust and dirt, but it is also one of the best hydrating products on the market. The premium silicone formula was specially developed to deeply hydrate rubber, leather, tires, and plastic.

Static Guard is America’s number one anti-static spray, and for a good reason. It is a multipurpose product that is highly effective at both eliminating static electricity and preventing static buildup. What’s more, it acts instantly. Anti-static pipes avoid static buildup either with conducting additives added to the plastic or a coil (or line) of highly conducting wireHowever, the product’s truly unique aspect are its powerful antibacterial properties. Thanks to its patented Microban Technology, the formula can prevent the growth of bacteria on treated surfaces even long after the product was last applied. Static is a more noticeable problem in winter. This is partly because wool and polyester are two of the worst culprits, so your cosy wintry woollens could be to blame. However, the low humidity in our centrally heated homes also plays a part by allows static electricity to build up. Charging About: The Story of Electricity by Jacqui Bailey and Matthew Lilly. Bloomsbury, 2004. A picture-book-style history, broadly suitable for ages 5–10. Additional capabilities: While all anti-static sprays are designed to reduce static, many also have additional functions, like getting rid of wrinkles or even releasing stubborn pet hair from your clothes. It can be helpful to have a dual-purpose product on hand (especially when you’re traveling), so be on the lookout for these different perks. Add vinegar to the laundry after the rinse cycle. Simply pour 1/4 to 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the laundry load during the rinse cycle and your clothes should come out clean and static free. This is an especially good choice for cotton clothing or sheets, but it doesn’t do as well with fleece or polyester. [1] X Research source

Rub the clinging areas with a damp cloth or paper towel. Increasing humidity will offer temporary relief of electrostatic forces.

FAQs

Buy an anti-static spray, like Static Guard Static Cling Spray, and keep it in the wardrobe or your handbag. Dryer sheets do more than just remove static. They also lend a pleasant, fresh fragrance your laundry. Don’t over dry clothes and try to dry synthetic fibres separately so they don’t charge up the rest of your clothes. If you can, line or air dry. This one is not a must, but personally, I always like it when a car product can also neutralize any offending odors. Sometimes, you skip a wash (or two), so it’s nice to know that you always have something at hand to freshen up the air and save you from embarrassing situations. Final Thoughts
