About this deal

Below is a list of monsters that you can have your band of hunters face in The Silver Bayonet. On top of this list, creativity is encouraged and you can make your own monsters and scenarios too. It’s been more than a century since anyone willing journeyed to the ruins of the watchtower. The only path runs straight through a witch-haunted wood, where the trees and shadows shift, making navigation nearly impossible. The locals talk of Muma Pădurii, a hag who controls the beasts and the plants and murders intruders to fill her stew pot. The only way to safely cross the woods is to find the witch’s hovel and burn it to the ground, thus driving Muma Pădurii out."

Recruit new soldiers, face new foes, and explore the mysteries of the Carpathian Mountains in two new campaigns, one competitive and one for solo or cooperative play.

The Iron Keep breaks down into five different scenarios that take place amongst the castle ruins. One of the nice things about this campaign is that they've ratcheted up the tension and the threat that is posed by running around in a vampire's castle. A new Iron Keep Unexpected Event And Encounter Table has been added which can throw even more creepy threats at your soldiers as they try and undertake their mission. I think this is great and helps to set the scene very well, building up the tension. There are PILES of treasure tables in Frostgrave and about fifty different potions and magic items (not including grimoires and scrolls of the aforementioned EIGHTY spells or multitude of different +X to hit and/or damage magic weapons). The Silver Bayonet's seven "Special Armoury" items.... And the experience (and casualties) elements are fun because that’s where you determine whether a certain specialist lives or dies, is permanently disabled, is perhaps mentally scarred, and, of course, levels up and gets better equipment. Hobbying The Silver Bayonet Other countries also have these elite groups and I wrote an earlier article about creating your captain and building a group of hunters in my first look at the Silver Bayonet. he was also taken out-of-action... but, as we discovered later in the post-game sequence, he turned out to have received only flesh wounds, it makes sense that he just fled in terror....) The choice you make affects which units your leader can take into the game. Some units are available to some nationalities, but not others. Turn sequence is a kind of IGO-UGO where the Initiative winner of that turn moves half his unit first, then monsters Activate, then the entire enemy unit and then the remaining part of the Initiative winner's unit. So losing Initiative means the monsters may Activate before you do. Which is bad. At first, the game appears to be very much like Sludge War, in that it is the perfect opportunity for kitbashing some Napoleonics into something new, bizarre and fun. And to some extent it is, but… not really. An infantryman is just an infantryman, and even though you give him a different uniform (the book specifically talks about varying uniforms and how you don’t have to be strict about historical accuracy) he still is just an infantryman. There’s nothing wrong with an infantryman, and I feel like the model that I made was pretty good, but to accumulate all of the models needed to make one specialist unit? Either you have to buy a LOT of boxes, do a lot of sculpting, or–best of all–have a 3D printer. So French Chasseurs and British Britse Riflemen chasing each other and all kinds of monsters all over Europe. The many long wars attracted all kinds of supernatural vermin and every European nation which wanted to be in the Big League raised a specialist unit to combat that. So far the fluff. I did not yet mention, but Osprey Games intends that you will play this game on either a 2.5′ by 2.5′ or a 3′ by 3′ gaming table. With those measurements, this should fit on any kitchen table.

Thanks goes out to Osprey Games for sending this book. It really does help in Must Contain Minis being able to put out knowledgeable posts about their products. There are many other Attributes that you may choose, but the sample above gives you a taste of what is there. Activated figures roll for Tests so succeed in things like hitting someone with a musket or melee weapon. They always roll two dice; a blue Skill Die and a red Power Die plus a Skill value. The added total is the result and in case of a hit the Power Die determines damage. Elegantly simple. There are generally no pitched battles in The Silver Bayonet–you are almost always competing with your enemy to obtain an objective, all the while being disrupted by horrors and monsters. There are some decidedly Gothic adventures for you to dive into as you and another player (although you can take this to four if you like!) battle through the ruins of Castle Fier. It all culminates with a clash in the dank darkness of the castle as you battle over treasure and a threat that is watching from the shadows. Castle Fier - Starting With Solo/Cooperative Play Activating a figure means the figure may Move and perform an Action, or may Load instead of Move and perform an Action. So you can shoot more. Which is good, right? There are fifteen different soldiers for hire to The Silver Bayonet's twenty four (but convenient table summarizing them!?).
