X Bomber was first shown in Japan in 1980 and was their answer to the Gerry Anderson shows that had been so popular. BrainCom, known as Brainder in the Japanese version of the show and in the British comic material which used the Japanese mecha names, is piloted by Shiro Hagen. It forms Dai-X's head. As an independent fighter craft BrainCom seems to be the fastest and most manoeuvrable of the three fighters.
Episode 9, "Target: The Captain" - Commander Makara faces trial and execution for her past failures, and persuades the Imperial Master to review some of her past battles in detail. Remember the New Guy?: Caliban appears seemingly out of nowhere toward the end of the series as Makara's tech-guy. Maybe if the British public had had the same programing as the Japanese, Star Fleet might have been perceived as just another show, but I doubt it. The British strategic bombing force largely came to an end when the V bomber force was phased out; the last of which left service in 1983. The French Mirage IV bomber version was retired in 1996, although the Mirage 2000N and the Rafale have taken on this role. The only other nation that fields strategic bombing forces is China, which has a number of Xian H-6s. Mighty Roar: The Star Fleet version of Big X will often emit an eerie, machine-like roar during battle. It seems fitting though, what with some of the Imperial Alliance members referring to it as "monster machine".
The three Dai-X Fighters transform and combine to form the Dai-X; a 70-metre-tall robot that can fly and operate in space or within a planet's atmosphere. Redemption Equals Death: An unusual version of this where it's a villain trying to redeem themselves in the eyes of their superior. The Dai-X is well-balanced. It is equipped with a range of powerful weapons, is relatively agile and can withstand a substantial amount of damage. From their point of view this type of story had been told many times before, the imagery was not immensely original, and the stationary nature of the puppets made the show, in one critic's eyes almost unwatchable.

The Super Cannon is mounted on Dai-X's right wrist and fires pulse blasts with greater firepower than the fighters' individual weapons. On the left wrist are a pair of powerful torpedoes. Another laser cannon is housed in Dai-X's right foot. These weapons are generally used on "soft" targets like enemy ships and gun emplacements. Not hugely successful in its native Japan, the show was very popular in the UK. The combination of being superficially similar to the much loved Thunderbirds, and the fact that the show didn't shy away from many tropes that were mostly unknown in kids programming in Britain at the time made it a Gateway Series for British kids of a certain age. It even inspired the album Star Fleet Project, where Brian May and Van Halen performed together.The puppet nature of the show was to be it's main selling point, but eventually led to it's cancellation.

It is effective at destroying larger targets including capital ships but is relatively unmaneuverable. It can, however, withstand a fair amount of damage. This item is planned to be on sale from October 8 to October 16, 2022 at the X-BOMBER Exhibition 2022 and online at the GOODSMILE ONLINE SHOP from October 11, 2022. I had a little browse around FromJapan and found an X Bomber colouring/activity book that I hadn't seen before.

When flying X-Bomber, press and hold Select 1 (default Shift) for 1 second to launch the Dai-X Fighters. Even Big Dai X was dismissed as a fairly bland looking piece of mecha compared to Go Nagi's past creations.
