About this deal

Marshall’s style is incredibly easy to read and explains things in just the right detail so you’re not entirely in the deep end for any novices (like me) yet doesn’t get repetitive, so it certainly would be suitable for anyone interested in learning more about history and well flags. It didn’t seem fully necessary, and was kind of confusing as it didn’t fit at all, although admittedly what was there was interesting. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who is not just interested in flags but in the modern world and how we identify with our countries. He was visiting the Cambridge Union for an event in partnership with Waterstones to celebrate the launch of his new book The Future of Geography which explores the future of geopolitics, including the geographies of space. He has reported from forty countries and covered conflicts in Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Israel.

However, I'd recommend one to read Prisoners of Geography first, Marshall's more recent release which, while still being opinionated, is more reasonably so. What it certainly does do as a blank canvas of white is it is not projecting darkness or the colours of a particular side. These areas appear to be based more on Tim's opinions rather than facts, contain inconsistencies and stereotypes, and make the book fall short of a good read.
