About this deal

But when he discovers that Spider-Man is missing now he must take his place and protect the innocent. We start off with a very tired, defeated, sad looking Spiderman, dropping and throwing away his suit in an alley. But he is game and really does try to help while waiting for the real spidey to get back and take up his suit and mantle. We meet Emma, a girl who Yu saved and she figures out who Yu really is and takes it upon herself to become his aide. In the opening pages Asian-American teenager Yu - a well-meaning but quiet loner-type who is an average student in New York City - finds a discarded Spider-Man suit (complete with the web-shooters) hidden in an alleyway near his school.

And when he wears it outside and is recognized by New York's citizenry as Spider-Man, he caves under pressure and finds himself going on a rescue mission in a burning building. Seeing the parallels with Peter's real struggles with Yu figuring out what he wants to do with his new found suit and webs. He happens to come across an abandoned Spider-Man Costume and puts it on, thinking he could be like the Web-Slinger, but it would be fate that would make the fanboy face the most difficult question he has evaded, do I have the power to change my destiny? It's played for humor at first, but before long Yu pleasingly discovers a previously untapped courage and determination deep inside his soul and begins to roughly succeed at being a passable imitation Spidey. Yu Onomae is a Japanese-American high school student who's too much of a wallflower to interact with anyone at his school, much less the girl he likes.Another thing that works for this book is having an author that can balance the superhero genre with fantasy. Especially if they want the character in print to match what’s available in other media adaptations of him right now. Despite the risks to himself, Yu is driven to continually masquerading as the real Spider-Man because he feels it's what Spidey would do in his shoes. And after making it out by the skin of his teeth, Yu finds himself wrapped up in an escalating series of challenges wherein he must play the role of Spider-Man with only his suit, web-shooters, and rock-climbing expertise to guide him. My son is a big fan of Spiderman, which is why I grabbed this galley without much more thought to the storyline.

While feeling slightly heartbroken by the news, Yu lends his support to Emma and is satisfied with having her as a best friend. Osawa gives readers a story that stands out and plays on the strength of what Spider-Man is and can do. Big Bad: Mysterio, who instigates the plot by kidnapping Peter Parker and forcibly bonding him to the Venom symbiote. Together they find a way to seperate the Venom from Peter and Yu passes the mask to Peter telling him he is his hero and the true spiderman. The Spider-Verse movies explore a similar idea of: everyone can wear the mask, what counts is how you wear it.At the end, she appears to ultimately decide that he's worth forgiving for the deception, even helping him out.

A new villain appears a woman named Screwball who plants a bomb and challenges Spiderman to find it on her livestream. Still, with the real Spider-Man nowhere to be found, the city needs someone to save it… (simonandschuster, n,d).Mistaken Identity: Emma notices that Yu has bandages on his arm in the exact same spots that "Spider-Man" got hurt while rescuing her from carjackers the day before. Silk makes a surprising appearance, so if you're a fan of her character you'll be thrilled to see her. It also includes unique character designs that give Spidey’s Rogue Gallery a feel of nostalgia and a shōnen touch, a nod to Toei’s approach to Spider-Man (No, I’m not saying this has Giant Robots, but it has the same sense of wonder that we have come to love about the webhead. One day however, he finds a well made Spider-Man outfit thrown into the trash, and decides to take it home with him to mess around with. I am referring to the ability to have the strength, and the resolve to be the hero that New York and the World need.

Naturally as a teenager he tries it on, goes outside and starts posing and taking pictures of himself only to hear someone screaming for help. The art style is phenomenal, especially on the few colour panels that are present, the one that made me stop and look at it for a while was towards the end with the black suit in the golden hue of a sunset lit church. It's interesting enough, I suppose, But I'm not sure if I really loved this as a whole, especially if it's starting a whole new kid's journey into the Spiderverse. From this, she correctly deduces that Yu is the Spider-Man who rescued her, and incorrectly deduces that Spider-Man has always been Yu.
