About this deal

It's amusing that this was ever seen as radical, but early reviews treat Bvlgari Black as downright edgy. If the performance were better, I could see myself putting this in my fall/winter rotation, but with the lack thereof I probably wont reach for it very often. People like to give Bvlgari Black (1998) credit for being this edgy and daring avant-garde monster of a fragrance that was "niche before it's time" and all that crap, when the truth is that all perfume was once niche, and the excuse used to charge more money for something a little less contrived than what marketing data spits out comes from the same boobs that think "niche quality" is a real thing with any actual meaning. It begins to tone itself down after several hours with a soft and subtle vanilla base combined with hints of tonka bean and leather notes. People say it's lost its edge drowned in today's myriad of niche excentricities, but to someone like me who doesn't dabble much in niche it remains very unique.

The performance is solid, it lasts for 8 hours on my skin and the projection is nice in the beginning but after about 4-5 hours it sits very close to the skin. Many men seem scared by vanilla in fragrances but this one is wrapped up in a rubber accord that is straight out of the garage. While we strive to provide accurate and helpful information, we cannot guarantee the complete accuracy or reliability of the AI-generated pros and cons. But the projection is very low, it's only intimate, so if you find this too expensive for you then it will be a disspointment. Inspired by the myth of the birth of Vulcan, God of the Earth, this commanding fragrance explores the evolution of the modern man. It's not office safe, it's going to be best in autumn and winter, but then it suits most of the situations. Your instantly high status and the most sophisticated person in the room if you are wearing this fragrance. What it is is a sophisticated but modest rubbery, smoky, floral vanilla (with more artful blending in older bottles, but it never became unrecognizable). It is an absolutely beautiful, stunning and intoxicating fragrance that I would happily pay 100€ for.

If it was associated with Will, it might be the first cologne that, once slapped on, slaps you back. There are at least 60 other mentions of powderiness in the reviews, but it's not mentioned in the notes breakdown above.Spraying my clothes might stretch it an extra hour or so but it’s still not crazy strong, which to some might be a good thing. Adding to the mystique is the usual allure of anything discontinued, and the only real monster here are the stories told about Bvlgari Black online. In the end the florals disappear along with the leather and you are left with soft sweetness reminiscent of balmy vanilla that you get with benzoin and some dry subtle Tonka sweetness. I normally dislike tuberose, but in this it is subtle enough that it adds intrigue and compliments the overall scent profile. I hope this stays around for a while as I would hate to think that this might be my only bottle ever.

My colleague commented that I smelt lovely when wearing the scent but I did find that I needed to reapply throughout the day as it faded after a couple of hours. On my the staying power is great - I think anything with TONKA stays forever on my skin for some reason. This scent definitely reminds me of spicebomb but it’s less playful and a bit dryer with that big bang of leather in with the boozy spiciness. Opening onto a seductively masculine blend of rum, leather and spices, it reveals a floral heart of tuberose and rose, completed by a base of sweet, smooth benzoin. It has become my husband’s go to scent and he is in his mid 50s and works in construction as an Architect and smells great on him.
